Is these items necessary? I have a M4gery and I am debating the merits of these highspeed low drag items. I am not LEO, I am a . Does anyone see the need for a 300 dollar RAS? How much heavier does it make the rifle?

Depends on what you need to use the rifle for. For defense, it's an advantage. For hunting and target shooting. Skip it, buy ammo.

It is not necessary per say but it is helpful for adding accessories. If you get it get a FF RAS, RAS 2, or ARMS SIR since they are all lighter than a RAS/RIS and free float the barrel. Id pass on a standard RAS/RIS. They are heavier and dont free float the barel.

If you have a complete rifle and magazine(s), then you have everything you need for right now.

I would recommend spending your money on ammo. Shoot your rifle, continue browsing this site.

As you get comfortable with your weapon, your needs will evolve on their own. Keeping up with this site will allow you to keep abreast of those latest items to solve the needs as you come up with them.

The accessories will always be around, and probably even better ones when the time comes for you to get 'em.

Max, I have really mixed feelings about most add ons and I'm not sure a RAS is absolutely necessary. BUT, I'm a firm believer in adding, if nothing else, a white light to the AR. I guess the RAS would make that easier but other mounts will hold a light with the standard foregrip.

In close proximity, a light can also be used to temprorily blind your attacker, and maybe that keeps you from having to shoot or gives you enough time to move. (Try looking into a Surefire light without looking away.)

Figure one lumen per yard when you're comparing lights. Meaning that a 65 lumen lamp would enable you to light up a target out to 65 yards, etc.

My 2 cents.
