I want to build an AR to shoot 100 yds to as far as it will go. I would like to be able to shoot 55- 77gr bullets (I got a pile of 55gr but will get some heavier bullets for serious distance shooting). I am thinking a 20" 1:7 CL flat top w/M4 ramps, FF rifle length quad rail , Harris pod and optics. I can't decide if I want an A2 stock or a CTR. Would the rifle length buffer tube and A2 stock be better than a carbine buffer with a CTR or would it matter? First build so sorry if this is a dumb question. Thanks for any help

What kind of accuracy are you looking for?  SS will give better accuracy than CL, generally speaking.  I like the MagPul PRS.  I wouldn't use a collapsible stock on a precision rifle, but lots of people do.

I own a CTR, and personally I don't think it would give very good  balance with a 20" barrel.  If your only choices are a CTR or an A2, then I would go with the A2. However, if you have the $$$, then I would go with the magpul PRS that the above poster mentioned.  It would give some adjustability, but still mantain the weight and solidness that would be optimum for a precision build.

Good luck!

Edit: if you want to maximize accuaracy, I'd look into getting a stainless steel barrel instead of a chrome lined.

Thanks guys, this is just the kind of input I'm looking for. I want this rifle to be a real shooter so I will forget the CTR and maybe bite the bulletand start thinking PRS. At the least I will go with the A2 stock. As far as the SS verses CL for accuracy verses barrel life school me please.

1:7 twist will not shoot the 55 gr bullets as well as the heavier bullets(70+ gr).I would'nt go below 60 gr bullet for a 1:7 twist. A 1:12 twist will shoot the 55 gr bullets best. The 1:9 twist will shoot the 55 gr and up to 62 gr best.
