Ok, so I bought a sun devil milled flattop upper sans forward assist. I also bought a model 1 sales action block, which was supposed to be good for uppers without forward assist. only...it doesn't fit.

Am I SOL? Should I have bought a different action block? Should I just relieve some of the plastic so that the upper fits? Does it matter if the upper's contours are flush when I go to install the barrel? It seems like it will stil be pretty secure once I get the vice clamped down pretty good? Thoughts?

Yeah, you probably should have got one of the DPMS-style inside jobs for that upper. You can cut some excess plastic away until it fits but it won't likely be a good fit for a normal forged upper after that.

Buy a DPMS Panther Claw (action block that goes inside the receiver secured by two pins that fit in your take down & pivot pins holes) & you're all set.
