This is for a CMMG 14.7" M4 Type.

I currently have a Sure Fire, but I need a handguard that makes the top rail continuous so that I can use an Eotech, Magnifier, and BUIS.

I'm condidering going with a DD EZ 7.0.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks

If you can afford it, I'd recommend stepping up to the DD Omega rail. To me it's the perfect 2-piece HG. No heavier then Colt's M4 or Magpul's MOE HG's. Very thin profile and built in sling mounts (2 key features not carried over to the EZ Car version). They mount up rock solid and and are FF to boot. As for cost, they can be found in the EE all the time in like new condition for between $180 and $200. Not cheap but not bad either considering what you get.

ETA - If money is really tight and you're not worried about it being a free float, you may want to consider Midwest Industries new Gen2 drop in rail? Not sure about it's profile but weight wise it's right there with the Omega rail and can be had new for $125.

That EZ is too much $ for a non-free float.

If you can handle the install, some of the Midwest Industries offerings are good buys for free float.

For two piece drop ins that free float look at :
DD
YHM

YHM doesn't make a drop in free float.  Troy is another good option.

eta:  to the OP, you don't need any more than the reciever to mount an eothingy, mag and buis

This ...especially if you're not going to go full/true FF.

I want the ability to mount a light also. I'd like to get one of the RIS M4 handguards, but I think I like the idea of the fixed front sight assembly vs a bolt on front sight.

What is the quality/function difference of a two piece free float and a true free float?

Maybe I should buy a new upper?

Have you thought about the Troy MRF? http://troyind.com/%20/battlerails/troy-battlerail-mrf-c-7

Functionally, very little difference.  Either is strong enough to take any reasonable punishment.

That said, if you want to retain accuracy (1.5-2 MOA or better), a FF tube helps a lot for mounting things (lights, lasers, bipods), or even for just normal offhand/supported shooting.  Removing any contact and/or stress from the barrel is always going to help.

IMHO there's little difference between fixed and folding front sights.  I know I HATE fixed sights+red dot/eotech, but some people think it's the best thing evar.  The best way to do it is to have the sight (folding or not) mounted to the barrel, and in conjunction with a FF tube.  that way you're not pushing/pulling your front sight around when you flex the FF tube.

If you have the tools to set up a FF tube that replaces the barrel nut, I'd go that route, otherwise I like Troy stuff.

I don't mean to highjack but I am just trying to pull more information without starting a new thread.

I'm leaning towards a troy mrf? Are they pretty rock solid quality wise? They seem to be in a good price point as well.
