The sight post itself, or the whole front sight base?

Sight post, I'm wanting to put aftermarket flip up sights in the front & back. If I only purchase the rear flip ups will they match up with original fronts? I'm an AR noob sorry

The tapper pin channels in the barrel will not align with a new block that has been predrilled for taper pins.  So, the new front block you want will need to be a set screw anchored/attached one.

As for removing the old Bushmaster FSB, the pins are tapered, so dive the small sides in.

Now having said that, the taper pins will be a bear to drive out (read parkerized in place).  Go buy a nail punch, sharpen the tip if needed so the punch does not drift, and with the FSB backed up solid, break out a 4lb hammer, and drive the pins hard to start them moving.  Once they start moving, then use a standard punch to drive them out the rest of the way.

So im ok with just putting flip up's in the rear and leaving the original sights on the front right?

Should be fine, just verify that the rear sight height is going to work with the factory FSB.

It's the preferred method for most.  While the front sight sight assembly can be removed, improper removal and assembly of the replacement gas block can create problems.
