I just want to say hello and introduce myself.

I'm  brand new to the AR-15 and "almost like new" to the use of firearms...

My father is a retired police officer so I have being in contact with multiple firearms since I can remember, he used to take me to the range every weekend but that was long time ago (like 20 years ago!!)... a year ago I hear about the plan to open a shooting range close to where I live so I started thinking on the idea to get a rifle and start practicing again (I have a lot of work to do!).

My main intention is just shoot on the weekends to paper targets so I decide to go with a basic cheap entry level AR: DPMS Sportical .223, I'm fitting it with a Vortex Crossfire II (1-4x), Burris Ar-PEPR mount, replacing the stock with Magpul ACS-L carbine stock and the handguard with a matching MOE handguard and rail kit... oohh, I almost forget I got two 20 round magazines from Magpul too.

I'm going to start reading as much as I can here to get more familiar with the rifle and practice as much as time and money (work, kids and family) allow me...

Thanks!

Mr.Fus

Welcome aboard. Read more than you post and you will be fine. Ask the questions after you look for it and can't find them and many people will be more than happy to help.

welcome. I bought a new DPMS Sportical with the intent of modifying to into what a want. After shooting it for a year I've decided I like it so well I'm going to leave it like it is. If I decide to have a more "manly, commando" type AR I'll build one from scratch. Enjoy!

Thank you... the hardest part for me right now it's to wait for the Bay County Gun Range to open!

The good thing it's that in the meantime I can peacefully wait for Brownells to pack and send the Magpul parts... and read on basic tools needed and how to take care of my AR.

my main recommendation is to know the functioning of that rifle and maintenance above all else. in basic and overseas saw plenty of rifles jam cause guys didnt clean their weapons well. i never had issues with that cause of being OCD about my weapon being clean. also dont make the mistake a guy i know did when he got his first AR and use grease in the BCG! i told him to run it well lubed, he thought cause that grease worked miracles in a 22 in would do well but it was too thick and turned his rifle to a bolt action. ran fine after i realized what he did and got him to clean and OIL it

hihihi... I have being playing with the rifle and getting familiar with the mechanical part, unfortunately my work schedule has being and looks like it's going to be really strange for the next couple of weeks, usually Mondays and Tuesdays are my days off so I was going to take the rifle to the gun range on Monday morning while my kids are at school but for some strange reason my manager need me to be split my days off between Sunday and Friday next week.

It's annoying to have all ready but be limited because of time off to enjoy it... I guess a few more days will not kill me
