Sometime back I bought a "shortie" upper from some guy on the internet. Took me quite a while to mate it to a lower. Took it to the range for a test. No flash bang. Bolt looks ok. Tried South African and S&B ammo. Still no flash bang. Seems to me that the upper (including bolt and charging handle) was not properly headspaced. It's been so long that I'm afraid the guy I got it from will not honor a request for replacement/repair. He's now selling as Florida Gunworks. Any suggestions? Is there something I can adjust? Thanks

How do you know?  Did you check it with the proper gauge?  This is not something that can be seen.  Read up on the difference between Go, No Go, and Field headspace gauges.

Even with a stretched out chamber, the weapon should fire.  Look at the bolt carrier.  Is the firing pin retainer ("cotter pin") between the head and the shoulder of the firing pin, as it should be?

Take the bolt carrier out, remove the retainer, firing pin, cam pin, and bolt.  Insert the firing pin into the rear of the bolt all the way.  Does it protrude out of the hole in the face of the bolt?

Look in the barrel extension, where the bolt lugs lock into it.  Is there a primer, or other piece of trash in there, preventing the bolt from locking closed?

When you put this all back together, and chamber a round, do you "ride the T handle"?  No, either just release the T handle, or use the mag release to let it slam home.

I have to agree with a_free_man.  Headspace would have to be WAY to large for the round not to go off.

On the other hand, if the headspace were too tight the bolt might not be closing all the way.  If you examine the bolt you will notice the firing pin can't protrude from the bolt face until it is fully locked into the barrel extension.

This is a semi auto right?

DrStock,

Have you gone over to the dark side????
The last time I saw you, you were a Die hard "Yank and Crank Guy".

Also, I think that there may be a guy that posts here that might be able to look at the rifle and get it up and running.

I'll drop you a IM and leave my Phone #.
