Alright, I have heard people talking about the new M-4 upper made by H&K and wondered what the scoop was on it.
Anyone know if they would sell it on the civilian market if the ban goes?

Thanks,
Chris

HK is forbidden by German Law from selling weapons of war to civilians...

So unless HK's Ga plant flies - the ban sunsets - and the US Gov't does not fobid them to sell to the public...

HK has floated them to some military units and their armorers.

From my understanding HK is planning to manufacture uppers receiver conversion in different barrel length, for the Military, Law Enforcement and Civilian market. When the factory in Georgia is up and running, they plan to sell complete AR type systems, but with their own, improved, gas system.

The SHOT Show should be exciting. So many new products, so little money.[:)]

HK is planning on manufacturing the entire gun.  not just the upper for the military and LEO market. I am not sure what will be available for the civilian market.

I have seen a HK gun, compare to the LMT MRP, the LMT is head and shoulder above the HK.

be sure to look out for all sorts of pictures from guys at the show posting on AR15.com and HKPro.

So does this use a piston assembly to operate the bolt vs the gas directly on the bolt?
Would it be able to be dropped onto a normal AR lower?

All I can say is the upper will drop right on to a standard AR lower.  I can't comment on the gas operating.  I swore to secercy wehn I handed the gun three month ago.

Shot Show is next wekk, you will be sure to see a load of pictures from guys here.

SO let me get this right...they are pitching the XM8 to the military which according to their marketing garbage will make the M16 obsolete, but starting up a production line for AR15's???

[rolleyes]

M16 weapon system will still remain a large market even if the military goes to the XM8.  why ditch a profitable market??  Like the rumor of HK thinking about building 1911 style pistol is the same reason.  there is a market and why send your customers looking for a particular product to a competitor.

If you look at the H&K XM8 barrel and the LMT MRP barrel you may notice some similaritys.

I can't envision H&K doing a gas upper as the AR has today. It will be some form of Tappet / Operating rod upper similar to what the G36 / XM8 has. This is clearly the design direction being followed by H&K.

I thought the HK 1911 was supposed to be at SHOT??? It was just a rumour?

Correct me if this is wrong...but did the USMC just settle on the M-16A4 as their new service rifle?

When they start making this upper they will find there way into the civilian market no worries. I cant wait a clean firing AR15!! very nice indeed.

Army is switching first. The marines have showed no interest in the XM-8. Special ops will get the XM-8 first then it should trickle down. It should take awhile.
