Got this in a trade but don't know if its a H buffer or not. The code on the rubber bumper is: 1005-110360.
It's been a long time since I've seen an H-buffer so I don't remember what they look like. Someone took a grinder to whatever was on the front. Have no clue why someone would do that.

Help me out if you can.

Thx guys

the yellow bit on the end might be from Buffertech, or one of the other companies that sell aftermarket buffers.

no flats on the face, looks kinda odd.

the ground off section is where the "H" would normaly be, if it were an H buffer.

dunoo... go to the post office and weigh it.

I'd bet someone ground the face off because they were running the buffer with a bolt carrier that had one hell of a burr on it and it chewed the face of the buffer up...

Agreed, weigh it at the PO...

CAR - 2.9oz

H CAR Style - 3.77oz

H2 CAR Style - 4.7oz

H3 CAR Style – 5.6oz

9mm - 5.47oz, made of steel

Thats the same buffer that came in my new Bushmaster shorty. Has the same yellow end and round face, also has a grind mark on the face of it too. It wieghs 3.1oz. It works great and seems to be made well. Don,t be afraid to run it.

Yeah, I'd be a little skeptical about that buffer. I've never seen a quality buffer not have the 3 flats on the front.

All the cheap Chinese knockoff CAR stocks come with those exact looking buffers. I have a feeling that it was a knockoff "H buffer" and somewhere along the lines someone figured out it wasn't a real H buffer and ground the "H" off.

It might work, but I'd also be leary of the quality of the aluminum buffer body.

LMT buffers look like that, or mine I should say. My colt has the three flats but my LMT is round.   My LMT even has a rough "grind" like in that picture but isvery light. I bought mine from JC_.
What kind of buffers are in other LMT guns?

Also it weighs 3.1 oz..

Anyone notice a difference in performance between the H and H3 buffers?  Maybe with faster follow-up shots?  Will the same buffer work in my privately owned RRA and my issued Colt M4A1? And last, does anyone have a source for the H3?

Thanks.

nope... look it the pic, the grind is in the center where the bolt carrier would never touch.

At the PROgun show in Middletown, Ohio today all the carbine buffers Sherluk had looked just like that one.

I have one that looks like it except the buffer on the end is the common color instead of bright yellow.

That is strange.  My LMT "H" buffers look like my Colt "H" buffers.

At the gun show in Middletown, NY today Garrison Mfg. Inc. of Wauseon, OH had the exact same buffers as the the that Boom has.  I took a good look at it and my guess is that it is Chinese made crap.

The flats make clearing the buffer detent easier when inserting the carbine buffer.

My bushmaster was new in the box and came with that buffer. Can anyone who has recently bought a new bushmaster carbine check there buffer to see if it round or has 3 flats?

Standard weight Carbine (CAR) buffers are round and have no "flats".

Hey guys, thx for the info. After checking it very closely it is built well. I'm going to run it next week at the range and see how it does. I'll stop by the PO tomorrow and weight it to see which one it is.

I saw a round buffer like the one shown, a couple of weeks ago and it was really well made. It was in an Army (Israeli) CAR-15. I reckon that an army armourer wouldn't put chinese crap in to a gun that NEEDS to be used. (mind you, some of them  do plenty of other stupid things).

LMT complete rifles (and probably lowers) don't come with an "H" buffer, just the standad weight.  Perhaps that is an LMT standard buffer or there is a new vendor or a change in manufacturing from one of the vendors.

Can someone help a newby out and explain why the H-buffer is better than OEM? hanks!

It helps to further delay extraction, allowing pressures to subside somewhat.  This makes the extraction of a spent cartridge easier, because pressures in the case are lower.

My guy at the local shop says that the companies are putting a "mar" on them to prevent gunshow false "H" buffers. I could understand that.
