OK..
Someone is going to post "Put a little grease on it." Then someone is going to reply "Grease would collect dirt and crap, you don't want to do that." Then 5 people will say "Get used to it, it's the sound of an AR15. It also lets you know when the mag is empty because it sounds different." Then someone will post about Olympic Arms pneumatic buffers... The long and the short of it [:D] The noise is normal. |

CLP or moly grease in the buffer tube - a little dab'll do 'ya.
This won't silence it completely as it's a normal weapon function (I kinda like it); if you truly don't want to hear it your only option is Oly Arms' pneumatic recoil reducer. Edited to add: Shadowblade, you need to play the lottery today, my brother... |

Put Tetra gun grease in there and clean it out every 1000 rounds I never had a problem with it. You need enough grease to hold all the crap particles in suspension and still provide good lube without gumming up. I bet it would take about 2000-3000 rounds to cause a malfunction. One day I will have to do a test.

Remove spring & buffer.
Fill buttstock with peanut butter, cement, and Elderberries. Go buy the Streisand DVD, "Funny Girl". Enjoy. Cook for 35 min @ 350°F There, you solved your buffer spring noise broblem! Your buttstock will now not allow that noise to occur. Since you don't like that noise, you'll probably LOVE ole Barbara... |

sounds like a damn slinky to me.
I remember the first time i shot my mew armalite. WTF is this. my AR10 doesn't sound like this. is it broken? it sounds ridiculous! I want a real gun. so I used a dab of grease. yes my grease is dirty. so what? it does not affect the operation. have you noticed any metallic or ozone like smell when the bolt slams forward? that's the space in your "space gun". |

I remember seeing a lubricant that looked like black powder. Since it was powder form, it wouldn't collect dirt. Anyone ever try that product?

And, yes, it does make a different sound when it's time to reload. |

You need to glass bed the buffer tube with Brownell's Accu-Glas. There's nothing better than an accurized stock.

Doink noise is bad, I would get a gunsmith to install a silent spring, that goes sproink. That is what you need for better harmonics.

Naw, it's the spring. Springs are bad ideas that never seem to go away. You need to get one of those rubber balls, the kind that seem to defy physics. Get one the right size and put that in your stock instead of the spring.

Thought I'd add that AAC makes a hydo buffer too, to get rid of the noise. They make two versions, one for regular A2 stocks and the other for collapsible ones.

OH WELL, I guess I have to get on the "wagon" too....
The incomplete noise tells me I need to reload because the bolt is locked open. No bystanders hear the "doink". Getting rid of doink noise
It isn't noise. It is the music of the AR. Putting a bunch of grease, etc is just asking for more trouble. It collects dirt, crap, yadda, yadda, yadda, Very *LIGHTLY* oil the tube, spring and buffer. Hear the music and rejoice in the sound of freedom. |

IF you shoot it without hearing protection, you won't hear the "doink" ... disclaimer: please don't ever shooot any weapon without hearing protection.
As a child, did anyone ever used to sit behind the door and doink and sproink those little springs that were attached to the wall as a door stop? The AR15 brings back childhood memories..... BLAM! chrunk, bump-chriiinnninggg-doink .... |

I'm guessing from all of these responses that my "doink noise" is perfectly normal. I may give the hydro buffer a shot.
My ar15 is the best rifle I own for many reasons. I guess I expect it to work correct and sound correct. Can't hardly blame the manf' seeing as apparently only oly worked out a solution. The noise sounds un-natural but I suppose I'll get used to it. I didn't notice a change in pitch when the mag was empty, but I didn't listen for it either. Thanks for the suggestions.. |

Lithium grease from WalMart ($.97 for a lifetime supply)will eliminate the sound, and it will take a heck of a long time/lot of rounds to cause a fouling issue. Then all you have to do is clean it. I just check mine, and if it looks spotless in there, I let it go. Don't ever put grease in the upper or lower, but IMHO in the buffer area it's fine.
