My dad and I went shooting over the weekend and we took his SBR. After a couple of rounds, the charging handle shot back at my nose and the bolt locked back. What we found was not only was the bolt locked back, it was pushed back into the tube and stuck in there. We looked at the charging handle and the claw was broken off. Specs: LWRC 7.5 PSD BCM gunfighter CH This is the second time this has happened to us. Have broken 2 BCMs so far. |

Not sure why the charging handle is coming back with the bolt, it's got to be catching on something. Maybe the bolt is out of spec and grabbing it?
One thing, does the upper have a recess cut out for the CH latch to catch in? I recently saw a thread where someone had an upper with the recess missing. That would allow the CH to move to the rear under recoil and then get slammed by the bolt as it goes back into battery. Also, measure the length of the buffer and the buffer tube. If the bolt went all the way in and got stuck, it may have the wrong size buffer. Wouldn't explain the CH breaking off, though. Did your father purchase the rifle from LWRC or build it himself? Any pics? Sorry OP, need a little more info for process of elimination. ETA - It doesn't sound like a gas problem. |

OK, so what we found out when I had a coworker take it apart today was that when my dad SBR'd it from a pistol, we didn't change the spring and buffer to a carbine set. When the rifle cycled, the bolt went back into the tube further than normal and was locked in with the hammer. Problem solved and parts ordered. |
