| Gas blocks facilitate redirecting the gas into the gas tube - something needs to connect the barrel and tube. It "blocks" gas from spewing out. A front sight base is technically a gas block, but also with a front sight post and sometimes a bayonet lug. Simpler, lower profile ones are often used under free float rails that extend over the gas block (gives more rail space). Other gas blocks have a built in flip-up front sight or its own set of rails. It all boils down to user preference and whatever is compatible with your setup. |
