| I am well stocked on ammo for my .223 & .308s however I have a mint M1 that I have little ammo for (500rds, with a dozen or so clips). I never really considered this as a first line of defence weopon but am reconsidering since it will complement my 2 .308s as a third 300+ meter rifle. Question is this: Buy 1000 rds of 1980 Danish (in M1 clips) for $300 of buy 500 Rds new Federal for $225. Thoughts? |

although I have not shot any, but others who have shot it, highly recommend the Danish and Korean surplus stuff. The Korean Stuff is boxer primed (reloadable) I DO have several bandoliers of the Danish and a can of the Korean on hand, but haven't had the chance to take it out and fire it. AIM surplus had a good deal on the Korean by the can last month (~$88 deliverd IIRC)(it's what I bought) http://www.aimsurplus.com |

I think it's more of a personal decision... Danish: you get the clips and bandoliers but... it's NOT reloadable and a bit more expensive than the Korean. Korean: Boxes of 20 and is reloadable. Reports that I've read put them about equal in terms of performance. I have plenty of clips to keep my M1 fed [:)] IF I have any 'spare' money, I'd like to buy a case of the Danish. Just for the sake of having it (kinda like collector status) I don't think you can find a case of USGI stuff still in bandoliers NOS too easily. |

I picked up a couple K of Danish from the CMP when they had it el cheapo. Have some Korean comming from AIM. I pickup Talon when I can find it for my SHTF stash. CMP has Federal 150gr FMJ,500 rounds for $213.57 shipped. According to the guys over at Jouster's M1 forum you have to be carefull in feeding the Garand I guess some of the new ammunition can damage the gun to much pressure I believe. CMP says everything they sell is OK in the Garands. MM |
| I would go with the Danish or Korean, probably the Korean since it's usually cheaper and is reloadable. Besides, you can find M1 clips for next to nothing in cost anyway. And if neither of those choices were available, I'd probably buy the more expensive Federal American Eagle. I've heard many Garand shooters say this load wouldn't throw off the op rod....which is a danger with some modern commercial loads. |

If choosing just from foreign, my vote is for the Danish ammo - very consistent quality, shoots accurately and cycles perfectly in my Garand, seems "cleaner" and "stronger" (not hotter) than the Korean stuff I have fired. Reloading not an issue for me. On an overall basis, just impresses me as higher quality than the Korean. Domestic...Federal is first choice, hands down. I have also fired UMC (Remington)... OK, but second to Federal. Danish & Federal tied for first, Korean and UMC second, is my choice order. Good luck & good shooting! |
