Got my first AR on Saturday (brand spankin new 16" RRA) - went to a military rifle shoot yesterday.
fired 3 sighting rounds with American Eagle 55gr factory loads - Lovein'it

Pulled trigger on 4th round - click
try immediate action drill - can't get the bolt to retract.

Thankfully experienced shooters were there with me and figured out the problem.

Problem was one of the gas rings jumped out of it's track and a piece wedged into the bolt carrier.

Now for the question - should I just replace the gas rings - or should I send the upper back to RRA to have the bolt checked?

I've never heard of that happening.   I've shot tens of thousands of rounds through ARs and that one's a first for me.    I'd contact RRA and see about sending them the bolt/carrier to check out.

Met with my dealer today - recommendation is to install new rings and give it a go.  If failure occurs again - then send it back to RRA.

Apparently this is a rare occurance - they checked and there are no burrs in the BCG - their best guess is that when the gas rings were installed, one was either malformed and not caught , or bent during installation.hinking.gif

I'll post an update once I get time to get back to the range.

Installed the new gas rings and went to the range - got up to 10 rounds this time before experiencing the same problem.
Time to send the rifle back to Rock River head.gif
