Got a newbie-ish question.  I recently purchased an A2 upper, and the front sight post is a little different than the one on my other upper.  Instead of being square shaped, it is round, and has five slots for the detent instead of four.  I compared the front sight bases, but couldnt find any differences between those.  Why the different sight?  Also, how do you adjust it?  There must be some special tool I am unaware of.  To adjust the square shaped post, I use a punch to push in the detent, and a small pliars to adjust it.

While it can work, we don't use "punch ... and a small pliars(SIC)" .  For a field expediant adjustment, you can use the tip of a cartridge.

One's for an A2 sight, the other for an A1

I got a tool at a gun show for $6? It will do the four or five point sights. Forgot to take it with me and used the cartridge method today, what a pain. The tool makes things VERY easy.

Thanks for the picture.  I will look for one of the A1 sight tools.

I just use a really common thing that most people have when they are sighting in their ar's and its call the nose of a bullet,  and the reason one post is circular is because it is an A1 and the square post is an A2.
