I would like to put a low profile gas block on my 20" RRA. Can the standard front sight be removed?

Yes.  Remove gas tube pin and then punch out the base pins.  I uses the Brownell's FSB block when doing this.

Im glad to hear this because I just ordered a Stag model 2t and I was concerned about the front sight bothering me if I ever put a big scope on it. I am new to the AR....you mean you can remove the A2 type front sight? It sounds simple but how hard would it be to do this? Thanks!

Buy the appropriate size punch & tap the pins out. Some pins are stubborn & will need to be drilled out though. After that lightly tap the FSB toward the muzzle with a rubber mallet. I did this for the first time last weekend & just oiled the area forward of the FSB to help it slide off a lil easier. I'll admit I was apprehensive doing barrel work. I've become fairly accomplished at doing the easier work such as is the case with the lowers but upper work is just as easy when you take your time, use the right tools & read the simple how to on this site. Good luck.

You can make a block to push out the pins out of hard wood.  Drill a hole through the block of wood.  Cut the block so there is half a hole, making a troth for the barrel.  I used a wood bit in a Dremel to make a relief for the FSB and hand guard cap laying the barrel in the troth.  I then drilled two 1/4" holes where the pins will come out of the FSB.

Also I have found that putting some heat to the barrel bans of the FSB with a small torch helps loosen the FSB from the barrel/pins.  I normally use a larger punch to get the pins to move.  Once the pins are flush with the FSB I switch to the proper size punch.  If I try to start the pins with the same diameter punch, it is easy to bend or round off the end of the punch.  I've also found that shortening the proper size punch down to 1/4" cuts down on bending it.  With the taper of the pins, by the time the pin is inside the FSB by 1/4", it'll fall out.  Hope these tips help.
