Yes you can just unscrew the tube from the barrel nut section and as long as you buy the same brand of tube you should be good to go. The thing will be unscrewing the tube w/o unscrewing the barrel nut section. It all depends on how tight each individual section is tightened. A free float barrel nut wrench may be needed to keep the barrel nut from loosening but you may get by with a couple of strap wrenches. However you will need to remove the gas block but that is no big deal. Just loosen the screws and the gas tube will come with it. Edit: Rethinking this you may not need to remove the gas block if the tube ID is large enough to clear the gas block. However, if the barrel nut does move it may pinch the gas tube requiring you to replace it. Sounds harder than it really is. |
Yeah, I kind of thought the same after reading your first post. As my Dad has always said: "Better safe then sorry!" I think I will remove the gas block and gas tube, just in case something does not go the way I plan it. I actually found a great price on a YHM Ultra-lite quad rail, I think that will get put on in place of a standard free float tube. Thanks for the help guys! BTW... I like the way she looks now as well, but function wise... I need something a little longer for a more comfortable hold. |
Yep... I would be nice if they did, but they don't. I am holding off on the quad rail for now. I will be coyote hunting with this rig more then anything. If I need a quad rail, I will just have to build another AR! he It is around 1/3 the cost of the quad rail... it will give me more money to spend on other gear! |
