I have on order a Noveske 16'' recon barrel in the "standard" contour mid-gas system, it will be shipped to Wes Grant for a precision build. I am having it fluted forward of the gas block and underneath the hadgaurds with 6 "medium/heavy" flutes (as discribed by John himself.)

My question is does any one have a reasonable guess on how many ounces that will take off the barrel? Noveske lists the standard barrel at 2 lbs, 4.2 oz.

Yes I did ask John how much it would weigh after fluting and he said he didnt know.

And no, I don't want a lighter contour.

Thanks for the help

You'll lose about 2.5 oz.

Check this out; Bushmaster lists the weights of their fluted and non-fluted barrels.  Just do some subtraction and you'll get a good estimation.

6.4 oz lighter on a 16" barrel! I thought the 2.5 oz figure was a little low. Thanks for posting the Bushmaster data. I always use heavy fluted barrels.
