Has anyone gone to a fixed stock on their carbine? If so, what did you use?

A few pictures still work in that thread.. I think that is what you are looking for. |

You can also use a fixed length buffer tube with a regular slide on stock, I have a couple of them I need to sell, they are longer, with an hex head screw that goes through the plunger lever screw hole and is tightened down, so it looks like a movable stock, but is not, it would be easy to drill another hole and tap it at the length that is comfortable for you.

I like the magpul fixed carbine stock. Uses a regular carbine buffer tube

Do it with a middy. Mild recoil and much more comfortable stocks |

This being Kali, and since all my AR's are featureless, I've standardized on the Magpul fixed carbine stock on all of them, with a carbine buffer tube obviously.

Those look sweet guys. What would I have to do to put a A2 stock on my 6920? What about the factory end plate staking? What is the length compared to my magpul moe stock at the fully extended position? This is my first and only AR and I want the KISS principle from stock to muzzle.
My 6920 is outfitted with an A2 carry handle. Moe handguard. In my idea of a KISS SHTF rifle, i want a spare Colt bolt in my magpul grip and a firing pin in that storage core. I want the A2 stock to store a cleaning kit, lubricant, a spare cam pin, firing pin retainer. Would I have room with the magpul grip and A2 compartment to hold equipment to clean the bore, and clean the bolt- with the spare BCG parts to be able to self sustain the rifle with equipment on board? Is there a collapsible stock option that would give me room to keep all these parts on board? |
|
my 3 gun carbine is an Armalite Eagle lower, RRA 16" mid upper, MI narrow fore end, RRA NM trigger, A1 stock, Enidine buffer and TA31F for sight
|
|
Back during the ban I had an A2 stock and an A2 upper with heavy carbine barrel. Recently I threw together a m4 upper with bushmaster pinned and welded 14.5" barrel and on a spikes jolly Rogers lower with a2 stock. I think it's my favorite rifle for some reason. I've had a couple middies with a1 stocks also. They just kinda look like little m16s.

Does the magpul moe carbine fixed stock fit tight? the only thing i miss about my AK is the solid feel of the wood stock. I'm all about a solid feel. The wiggle in adjustable stocks just drives me crazy.

I would feel 0 hesitation to mortar the Magpul FCS. |

A2 fixed on most of my rifles
they're cheap, reliable, and I usually don't need a collapsible stock |

Thanks guys! Midway USA had the magpul fixed stock on sale for $20.38 this morning, so I snagged one and a gen 3 pmag. I've been buying a mag every pay period since i picked up this 6920. I figure that's a good habit to get into.

I explored getting an A2 stock for storing a cleaning kit and the familiar cheek weld but i was unclear on what I would need to regarding the buffer tube and buffer and I didn't want to mess with the Colt factory staking job.

I use CavArms stocks and modify A2 butt plates to fit them. Very little material needs to be removed from the inside of the butt plate to allow them to slide into place. They are light weight and plenty sturdy for my use.

I really hope I like my magpul carbine fixed stock. Y'all have no idea what stock wiggle does for my OCD. I don't have OCD except for my firearns. I mind character scars or anything like that but I get tore up about fitment issues.

I use an A1 stock on this rifle. Here it's wearing an XM-177 "retro" type upper but I normally have a 14.5" upper on it. I have other rifles with collapsible stocks but I like the fixed stock for my select fire lower.
Attached File It was influenced by this one in the wild. Attached File |

I prefer either a1 or the MOE rifle stock on a middy 16"
It creates a handy well balanced carbine especially with a pencil barrel. 6lbs |
|
Magpul fixed carbine stock on my go to rifle. Works great for me and is easy to instal, uses standard carbine buffer tube.

I have been looking at the Ace stock. Would I need a different buffer? Any downside to Ace stocks?
|
|
I use A2 stocks on two of mine that run heavy profile 16' barrels, the heavier stock balances well and I think the rifle length buffer is smoother than an H3 carbine buffer.
The downside is no adjustability on LOP which can be a problem with scopes, and a tight fit in 36" cases. They both came with the 'meat tenderizer' buttplates which I didn't care for, one has an el cheapo rubber pad and the other was ground & sanded down like an A1 plate. One is also a dedicated bench shooter so I filled the trap door with lead weight. |

I ended up putting an A2 stock on my 16" carbine since I always ran the collapsible stock fully extended anyway. In fact I don't use any
collapsible stocks anymore. Both my Carbine and 20" 6.8 have A2 stocks and my 18" precision rig along with my PA-10 308 both have the Magpul PRS stocks and my dedicated 22 has a Luth-AR stock on it. |

That piece is required to mount the stock. It comes with two different ones. One that meets up flush to the castle nut and stock on the other side. The other one is cut out for a end plate sling adapter thingy. I didn't want to mess up the factory staking of my 6920's castle nut so I didn't mess with the sling adapter.

You are welcome! I've asked so many questions since switching over from the AK, that I jump at the chance to share anything I actually know about the Mforgeries....which is very little. But I'm studying hard and shooting as often as I can!

I run a couple of Colt SP1 A1 length stocks. I love them with a 16" barrel mid length upper. I don't know why the industry got away from them.
|
|
Fulton has the Cavarms A1's.
I've picked up a number of GI A1's off the EE. Here's another option: http://www.gunnyssurplus.com/m16a1-buttst161.html |

I got the magpul fixed carbine stock installed on my rifle. I used blue lock tight on the screw that connects the stock to the supplied fittting. I love the length of pull and the solid feel (the whole point of ditching the MOE was to get a more solid feel. The MOE fit so poorly I almost questioned whether my 6920 had a mil spec tube). However, the stock wants to walk backwards maybe 4 or 5mm....anyone else have similar experience?
|
|
Really like the A1 stocks for my carbines which I tend to keep as simple as possible.
The magpul stock is also a very good choice but it is heavier. |
