manufacturer recommends that the rifle be cleaned before the first firing to remove lubricants and oils used in manufacturing of the rifle. i have oiled all the metal parts. as for the barrel i was going to run a dry patch through the barrel followed by one or two of hoppes no. 9 then dry patch again until the patch is dry. will this suffice for te first cleaning?

what is your recommendations if this isn't sufficient?

That will work just fine.  Break her in with a few hundred rounds of ammo and you'll be good to go.  Enjoy your new AR.
