this is my first ar15 and about 1 in about every 50 rounds will not hit the primer hard enough. It will still hit it but when looking at the cases of the fired cartridges the primer is punched alot harder than the unfired. So i tried a different kind of ammo and it was still doing the same thing. so i am wondering what the problem could be?

Its 1 of 2 problems.

1 your hammer spring is on wrong, or your hammer spring isnt the proper weight.

2 your bolt isnt closing all the way and the hammer is hitting the carrier and pushing the bolt closed and the firing pin is barely tapping the round.

I am guessing that the OP is having issue #1.  It is very common to install the spring incorrectly.

I agree with Chase45 on the #1 issue. Try that out first and see if it works out for you.

Now.....You say this failure happens about every 50 rds. You say that you've tried different ammo.

Same results. Yes?

Here comes the "Assuming" part!

Since there was nothing said about how many actual rds you have put through your New AR Build.

I'm going to assume you put at least 500 rds through it for a break in period. And your still having the same problem. Yes?

Please don't think that I'm being condescending.

But I have to ask about your cleaning regimen.

Cleaning the carbon build up within the firing pin track of the bolt is very important. As well as chamber cleaning. No more needs to be said on that.

Other then that....I'd think about the buffer spring being weak and whether or not it may be the problem after 50 rds and not locking your bolt into battery.

Just my thoughts.

Good Luck
