Hello all. This is my first Build as well as my first rifle. I have been more of a handgun guy until now. I am excited to get this build completed and have a few parts already. I am looking for a few recommendations and any information that you feel would be helpful for a first timer. Here is my current parts list.
Lower parts kit - cmmg Buffer tube - ati military aluminum Lower receiver - core 15 Stock - magpul acs Upper receiver - phase 5 a3 flattop My main questions are what type and or length of barrel should I get and what bolt carrier group would be best. I am looking to use this mainly at the range but I also plan to hunt with it. I have been looking into a fluted barrel Because I think they look cool. :) but I have done very little research on the bolt carrier group or the barrel brand. Thanks for taking time to help out this newb. |

Not gonna lie, I figured a bcg would be a bit more expensive. While I appreciate the link, what makes this a good bolt? Because AIM is the shit and that bolt is just as good as a $150 one. Its a cost saver bolt. I just bought one. But if you want a big money bcg go get a BCM or Spikes. As for the barrel KISS and get a 16" chf or a 16" Ranier Arms select. |

Thank you for the barrel information! Ill look into those.
Here is the thing, I'm not LOOKING to spend a ton, but if I have too, I will. I would rather get it done right the first time. I am just trying to understand why it is the shit, What makes it the shit? Is it the chrome lined carrier and gas key? And it is because chrome is smoother? This is what I would like to understand, I realize there is google, and I am looking but I can't seem to find anything that either A) I understand or B) Explains why it's better. I was hoping to get some sort of breakdown on here. If no one can or straight up doesn't want too, when the time comes I'll order a bolt regardless and learn from experience. |
| Aim Surplus in NiB (nickel boron) is very nice. I bought this one because of a referral and I haven't seen a NiB BCG this cheap anywhere else. |

Barrels can be confusing sometimes cause you need to know what you want. Carbine, mid or rifle length gas system. Also do you want a heavy, lightweight or m4 profile barrel. Lots of good info here:ar15.com faq |
| Just used an Aim Surplus $80.00 BCG in a PSA upper assembly and it works perfect. Pretty does not make it go boom any better. You may want to price a complete upper assembly and sell your upper. Hard to beat the price of PSA upper assemblys. The quality is excellant if you are looking to save a little money. I have less than $600.00 in my latest truck gun build, and used good stuff. |

I am not looking to buy a complete upper assembly. I am a DIYer and have done lots of research on how to assemble and build the upper, down the the ejection port cover. This is the most exciting part for me, even if I spend more. But thank you for the advice. |

I too did a ton of research as this was my first build also. |
