I am starting a new AR build, this is my second AR but first build. I am starting with a Spikes lower that is already complete. I want a mid length upper but not sure which way to go. I would like to get a Spikes upper but they seem few and far between. I have also found a good deal on VLTOR stripped uppers. Any suggestions for barrels? I also want a free float rail.
Thanks

Without more information on its intended role or purpose, it will be very difficult for anyone to give you clear direction or salient input.

What I can say is VLTOR makes a solid squared away stripped upper, but so do about 6-8 other manufacturers. It's not necessarily any more special than others in their respective segment. So, If the VLTOR can be had at a fair price, buy it, but balance this option again the purchase price of a completed upper.

Since VLTOR was mentioned, I would also recommend their A5 Buffer kit which has universal benefit for all ARs platforms. You'll find no one with a bad thing to say about it.

It's going to be used as a range gun, maybe use it to run the course they have at the range and used for shooting coyotes on occasion as well. I don't want to go with a heavy varmint barrel. Not dead set on the uppers I previously mentioned that's why I am looking for different suggestions. Also if anyone has a nice upper they are trying to get rid of im me and let me know.

Since you mentioned you don't want a bull barrel, would you consider a mid length heavy barrel?

Well I found a great deal on a spikes upper with a mid-length barrel and Daniel Defense rails here in Clovis NM. Never been fired Spikes BCG, Spikes 16" 1-7 twist barrel , spikes upper and Daniel Defense Omega 9.0 rail. Now i just need to get optics
