Guys, new kid on the block attempting first build. Ordered stripped lower from Palmetto State Armory along with lower build kit trimed out with MOE's grip and stock. Should arrive any day. After reading step by step instructions on this site, don't see any issues completing the lower assembly. However, after reading several articles about upper build issues, i.e. tube mods, shells not ejecting because of poor finish, BCG not mating well with barrel, etc., I am a little wary of attempting an upper build from scratch. I would prefer to find an "upper build kit" so that everything will match-up, or possibly just buy a complete upper since this is my first build. I would like to keep the upper under $400. Is this possible, and what are my options? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. I am leaning towards a mid-length upper. Thanks in advance.

Building an upper isn't that hard. You do need a few special tools (upper vise block, barrel nut wrench and torque wrench). Follow the instructions in the tacked thread at the top of the page, and ask questions on this forum if you have them. The people on here are very smart and not afraid to help out someone.
