Hey guys. Here are some pictures of my first AR build. I will also try and make a list of all of the components, but if I miss some sorry.

I built it this past summer and just haven't put pictures up yet. Its got about 600 rounds through it now and I can say I have not had a single Failure of any kind. It has eaten every kind of ammo I could put in it, from cheap tula and herters all the way up to some hand-loaded boat tail competition rounds. With this aimpoint, I have been within 2 MOA with each of the rounds (it was zeroed with the boat tail rounds). This last picture was a shot from about 30 yards or so with cheap tula. It was just a shot my dad bet me I couldn't do, and then said it was luck until I did it 3 more times back to back to back. Just speaks of the accuracy of the rifle and optic. Im from SC as well, so building it all on PSA was an important thing to me. Gotta support my home state!!!

Also, I'm not done with it yet. I am a poor college kid, so I had to build it this way until I could get some more money to fund the rest of the build. I want to switch out the RVG and Grip with another MOE set, but go either OD or FDE, havent decided yet. I also want to put a MOE Stock and cut the gas block off and install complete MBUS sights on it, and put on a free float rail of some kind. Any suggestions on a cheaper FF rail in either FDE or OD would be appreciated. Ive looked at some YHM rails and like them. I also like DD but I know your going to pay a lot for that kind of quality.

Thanks
arnie

Just in case the pictues dont show, because they didnt on my computer. Here are the links for the pictures

Looks to be a nice rifle! I guess I'll be the first to give you shit about not having your optics mounted on your receiver. Can we still be friends?

Thanks

Yeah Your not the first. I have moved it around a couple of different places. That just gives me a good sight picture. I had it moved back about 3 slots so it was on it, but it felt like I was using a scope more. Itll probably get moved again before all's said and done

Aha got it to work. Thanks for telling me how to do it

Good looking rifle...I guess I need to get my eyes checked...AGAIN...I wouldn't be able to see a shell at 30 yards

About the handguard, I want to FF. I like the Knights Armament Company (KAC) RAS Long Free Float Handguard sold at BCM, but its over $300!! I can't afford that. I know the quality is top notch, and I know the price is directly attached to the quality, but does anyone know of another company that makes one of these in the 100-200 dollar range. It does not have to be exactly like this one.

Edit: Also I would like it in FDE or OD, but that's not a deal breaker. I can always paint it

Midwest Industries has a couple really solid choices in your price range.

The "Gen II SS" are about $180 and the SSK Keymod rails about $200.

I like the barrel nut / handgaurd interface that Midwest uses and the Gen II rails are used on a lot of Core 15 rifles.

I like the Gen II SS. How is the quality? Ive only ever heard good things about midwest, but never used one of there products
Also, its a 16" with a mid-length gas system. A 10" will cover the standard A2 front sight block completely once I cut it down right?

edit: also I looked at the Troy Industries BRAVO BattleRail - 11 Inch Model - Flat Dark Earth. Its sold at BCM for $149, so I'm assuming I can find it cheaper somewhere else. Any experience with it?

I have a Troy Alpha (bought a while ago) and I don't like how the rails mount to the barrel nut. The Midwest ones have a much more secure mounting interface. Also some of us are boycotting Troy right now because they employ someone from the Ruby Ridge incident.

You should go with the 12" or even 15" rail, you'll love it.

If you cut down your front sight base it will clear just about anything.

Look at the SLR Solo series.  Light weight and affordable...

Check out Parallax Tactical's handguards as well.  Good freefloat option with a reasonable price.

What do you guys think about free floating with a tube. Something like the MOE handguards with a free float tube under them? Just saw it as an option and just curious on opinions

what?
That's not how it works
Look at like a troy alpha rail or NSR rail.

So then,
Chop down the FSB, (move aimpoint to the receiver), install Troy Alpha... profit!
