Hello all,
Ive been wanting to build an AR for awhile and i stumbled onto this site and i have to say its been a really educational find!!  I was just wanting your opinions on a reciver for my first build.  After looking around i thought that a Tactical Innovations T-15 would be a good starting platform and right now they are on sale for $189 for a lower/upper stripped combo.  Should i go with the T-15 or go elsewhere?

Thanks
Henry

I think its a good receiver at a great price.

The only suggestion I have is some people like to buy a complete upper, as opposed to buying it part by part, since they don't need to spend money on tools they will only use a few times.  Just decide which route you want to go before buying an upper receiver.

Thanks for the advice.  I really wanna build the rifle completely but it may be better for me to buy a complete upper and barrel assembly like the BCM middy.......Ill just have to figure out how hard core i wanna be for my first build.

Seouljer: Welcome to ARFCOM if I haven't already said that.
Unless you plan to several uppers the tools are somewhat expensive.

Thanks for the welcome.
Ill definantly check out the links Spec.  Im just trying to avoid looking too much like a noob and ask "which is the best lower receiver".  But then again I are a noob

The typical canned answer is "Pick yer rollmark".

They're all going to be about the same in terms of functionality. The thing to do at that point, is decide what looks the prettiest to you. Be that a particular roll mark (logo stamped on the side), the finish you like best, the attention to detail on the final machining marks, or the clean lines and beefed up styling of a billet lower; combine all of your tastes in those areas with the price of the thing, and you've got YOUR magic combination.

Personally, I've owned Rock River, Del-Ton, Doublestar. They all function exactly the same. The Doublestar was a bit tighter when fitting pins (probably due to the teflon coating) but also is, in my opinion, the best looking overall. Partially because of that sweet semi-glossy teflon coating, and partially because of the sweet dragon, or terradactyl, or whatever the hell that is, on the rollmark.

I'm about to place an order for about of those $79 billet machined lowers from Centerfire, and give those a go...

Edited to fix a typing error, and add a pic of the Doublestar roll mark.
