I'll start by admitting that until a couple days ago I was never going to own an AR.  Not that I think it's a bad rifle, I just don't like all the extreme AR mentality whether it be the lovers or haters.  Then I met this beautiful classic gem.  I just purchased what I believe is an all original A2 (except a brake) and would like to know what the model # is and what year it is.  The lower is marked COLTS LAW ENFORCEMENT CARBINE CAL. 5.56  Serial# is LE 00116_ which seems really low.  Right side reads RESTRICTED MILITARY/GOVERNMENT LAW ENFOCEMENT/EXPORT USE ONLY.  I got the rifle with a Spike's lower installed because the PO was scared to have the 'RESTRICTED' lower on it.  Is there anything specifically illegal about the original lower now that the ban is over?  I'd like to run it in all it's original glory (bullet button added of course) if it's not going to lead me directly to a federal prison ass pounding.  I've tried researching the law and it's been very difficult to figure out if this verbiage stamped on what I believe is a ban era gun really matters.

Hmm... lot of questions in there.

First off - Welcome to the site (saw your first post in Retro).

The fed ban may have ended, but Cali has it's own ban, so I'm not sure if that lower will cause you problems or not. Try asking in California Hometown section here:Cali Hometown Forum They can probably better answer that one.

I saw your reply last night but didn't want to 'waste space' replying, some forums are really active and I don't want to be clogging the place up on my first day.  Thank you for the welcome and the advise to see the Cali forum.  I've been reading and trying to figure it out before posting but I think it's time.
