Hello world!
New to the AR world here, thought I would start out simple and cheap and then work up. Bought myself a Bushmaster Carbon 15 but it was out of stock so I am waiting for it to be delivered to the store. While I am waiting I have ordered a bunch of new parts, aluminum quad rail, Magpul MOE buttstock, new gas block with rails, Magpul pistol grip, charging handle, end plate sling, and 1 point bungee sling. Anything else I should look into? From the research I have done the Carbon 15 is a pretty good gun, I know its not the best but I think for a starter AR its fine, does anyone have any experience with it that could tell me what to look out for? Will post pics when I finally get it and my accessories on. |

Hmmm that seems unlikely lol I have no motive to lie Bushmaster pic thread last page |
| Stay away!!!!!! I have seen pictures of them broken in two. There was a thread on M4carbine about 2-3 months ago where a gun store worker from the Pacific Northwest posted photos of a Bushmaster Carbon that was broken into two pieces when it arrived, BRAND NEW, at the store. Forged receivers are cheap enough nowadays that there is no rational reason to get a carbon receiver. |
| Hard to argue with photographic evidence. I have a carbon 15 and ill just say that I haven't had any issues with mine. Obviously aluminum lowers are more reliable. My thinking would be that since Bushmaster does batch testing, you're more likely to get a dud. You can definitely build a better rifle for the same price. Hindsight I would have gone a different route for my first AR. |

I dont doubt the broken gun, but just by taking it out of the box the chrome lined barrely broke in half? That seems unlikely. The upper and lower receviers are carbon fiber but the bolt carrier isnt. I don't know what you're looking at, but the pic in the link a few posts up is of the receiver cracking where the buffer tube screws in. That's at the opposite end from the barrel. |

Anyhow, we were just trying to help since you still likely had time to cancel your order. Enjoy the rifle and give us a range report. Pile up the ammo and show us the 1000 round pics. |

Problem with a plastic receivers is they try to duplicate the same size part as a forging. Every time I get in one of these threads, I end up pissing someone off. Do not waste your money on plastic receivers. Some people have many ar's and can start with a carbon 15 and then move up for there next rifle. I have many firearms but only one ar. I wouldn't buy a Highpoint only to trade up to a Glock. Save your money and buy better quality. |

Do a quick google image search for Carbon 15 and you will learn the term the front fell off and understand why they are telling you run away fast.
Why blow your hard earned money on a cheap rifle when you can have a much more robust and better rifle for the same cost. They are known to have problems and the plastic is not carbon fiber so do not be deceived. For a plinker and range toy it may be fine but a serious fighting rifle it is not that is the truth. |

Quoted: haha dang, I have heard so many good things, seen a lot of reviews and videos. Why the hate? Op, how much has that rifle + all the extras you've ordered set you back? I'm guessing that rifle is $600-$700 + $300 of extras. For that amount of money you can by a Colt LE6920 SOCOM, Wyndham or several other rifles from manufacturers who use metal receivers that have no recent history of being split in two out of the box. There have been several iterations of polymer lower receivers, all of which have received reviews ranging from mixed to Crapola. For that much money you are getting close to a deal on a BCM or DD rifle ($1200-1300 or less with a little google-fu/deal hunting on here) that would be top notch, life-dependable hardware. |

I spent 600 for the rifle and then just over 120 for the accessories, I went with first gen magpul.
You cant add in the accessories to the cost of a gun. If I spent 600 on my bushmaster and 300 on my furniture that doesnt mean that I spent 900 on the bushmaster. If I bought a colt or BCM or Spikes for 600 or 700 I would still be shelling out 300 for accessories regardless. I bought this as a starter rifle and so far it has performed flawlessy, I have shot so far close to 500 roudns and not so much as a jam or FTF, Its a great gun to start out on for sure. |

Of course you can. You're looking at the whole package. If you spent $600 on a gun and $150 on accessories, and someone points out that you could've bought Brand X for $700 and it would've come with those upgrades, that's valid comment. A cheap gun isn't cheap if you have to spend more money to get it where you want it. If you like it, great. Rock on. When did you put 500 rounds through it? You posted on the 9th that it was out of stock and you were waiting for it to be delivered to the store. |

I ordered it the week before I posted and got it friday. Went camping/shooting down by Utah Lake and ran 2 boxes of 200 plus whatever other ammo I had.
Where I was looking the prices for ARs were higher than I really wanted to spend. I paid 600 plus tax for it and then the furniture. I had looked at a DPMS and a S&W but both were over 800. Had it just been me I probably would have bought it but with being recently married my wife wasnt too keen on me shelling out a lot for a rifle. |
