Maybe it's because I'm an old klutz with stiff fingers, but I'm having a heck of a time installing the spring and plastic post in a new extractor that I bought.
Do you guys have a secret way of doing this or a special tool?
Thanks!

All I've ever done is to use my thumb and insert the spring (big end into the extractor) and push until it kinda snaps into place.

Yeah, I usually listen for a click/snap to know it's in place.  It takes some pressure to get it in though.

I just grab the small end of the spring where the coil ends, so I'm grabbing 2 coils, with a medium set of needle-nose pliers, place the insert in the large end of the spring, and insert the spring into the extractor while twisting the same way the bottom coil is going; You wouldn't want to twist in the direction that the cut end of the coil is or it will just bite into the extractor and make it even tougher.

Takes me only a minute, beginning to end, this way.

Put the spring in place and put the extractor in the bolt and press it in.  It will snap in.

Now,that sounds like it would work!
I finally dug out my smallest tap handle and gripped the small end of the spring in it's chuck. It held the spring securely and let me apply a lot pressure.

Thanks,guys!
