Did all ar-15 type rifles have these? I have never seen one in my pre ban h-bar.

Necessary or not???

I have NEVER had a failure to extract or eject in apprx 5,000 rnds.

Cool!  I'd order the brownells part.  It couldn't hurt to update you spring after 5000 rounds!

The extractor spring buffer was not introduced until about 1972.  There would have been about 3 million AR type rifles in service by that time.  So no, it is not necessary.  The extractor spring used prior to the buffer was more stout though.

Mine was built in the late 80's. It is an a2 h-bar. It was new in the box untill about two years ago. I can almost guarantee that there was no buffer in there on the first dissasembly. (could have been beer involved). I guess it cant hurt to put one in.

Going w/ the extra power wolf springs & 10 pack of buffers from brownells unless someone has a better suggestion.

Don't know who makes springs for Les Baer, but I'm running his extractor springs w/o any buffer as he recommends. Stopped all my extraction problems and the springs are very, very stout.
