I know that the insert colors are just to indicate the type of spring (i.e..blue for a standard spring and black for the heavier spring). However, I just received a new Colt bolt from CDNN and it has a red insert. What is the red supposed to indicate? TIA

It means that the bolt, while unused, is quite old, and has the really-old, lower-powered extractor SPRING in it.  The insert itself is no different; the color just indicates the strength of the spring.

Buy yourself a couple of Wolfe extractor springs and install them, and you're good to go.
