Today I intalled a McFarland One Piece Gas Ring, Wolff Extra Power extractor spring, and a D-Fender.

I never really paid much attention before, but it just seems like the extractor plate is very stiff and has no movement.  Shouldn't I be able to press down onto the extractor?

Or is the tightness just due to the extra power spring with the D-Fender?

I'd skip the Defender if you're already usung the Wolff Extra Power extractor springs.

What upper are you running?  Are you having trouble with a short bbl?

Let it break in a bit.

Ditto.

Either Or. Not both.

I'm running both on mine with absolutely no failures.

Most guns will run just fine with both.
The D-Fender multiplies the extactor tension by 4 times its normal tension.
In comparison, the Wolff X-tra power spring is hardly a drop in the bucket with this combination.
The X-tra power spring is not really needed in an application using a D-Fender.
However, I haven't had any reports of problems caused by it either.
The spring will eventually soften up like all springs do anyway over time.

We designed the D-Fender to work with the normal spring to give the exact amount of extractor tension that resulted in the best reliability in our tests. Making the small amount of additional tension by adding the Wolff spring may or may not do anything to improve the situation, depending on the individual weapon involved.
