At what distance do most folks sight in their red dots ??????
If sighted in at 25 yds or closer what is the farthest range to have the same POI ??

im kinda new to this stuff just looking for a starting point.

This would be for a 16" Armalite middy.

sight it in at 50 yards.

if you do 25, you'll be 6-8" high at 100, and you won't be back on until 300 or so.

a 50 yard zero will have you within 1-2" from the muzzle out to about 250 or so.

I +1 the sight in at 50 yards for general range use and targets.

I use mine for hunting mainly and keep it zeroed at 100 meters, with this zero I have taken deer, turkey, and other critters out to 300 meters many on the run.

However when under 75 meters I tend to miss the rifle groups 4 to 6 inches low at 50 meters when zeroed for 100,

For my use a 100 meter zero works very well.

My friend uses this technique for 3 Gun Matches with his Eotech 512. Last year we went to the West Point 3 Gun  Match at the Military Academy and he was knocking the shit out of steel targets out to 350 Yards.

You must learn your distances to target and bullet trajectory!!

Good luck

So if you sight the Eotech @ 50 yards how will it do at 100 yards and how will it do from about 15-25 yards?

If sighted in to zero at 50 yds, approximately:

15-25 yds, will be 1.5" low,

0 at 50 yds

1.75" at 100 yds

rising no more than 2" at about 150 yds

back to zero at about 200 yds and

-2" at 250 yds.

More or less.  Approximately.

The thing is, you just aim dead on from 0 to 250 yds and you will be +/- 2".

I zero my M4/carbines at the 50yards useing M855

I find Black hills 77gr and 75gr OTM have VERY CLOSE TO THE SAME POI as M855
  ( 50y to 220yards tested)

LMT M4 14.5 with arms 40Lsp and ML2 4moa dot
LMT M4 14.4 with arms 40 and Eotech 551 1 moa dot

TIN CAN AT THE BERM = 220yards
pretty easy to HIT
