Ok not sure if this is really a problem but i recently purchased the 511 model and i immediately noticed the reticle NOT being a perfect circle and kinda thick and pixel like.
I made a crappy Paint illustration of it here:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/ZEROTHOMAS/511.jpg

Now it almost seems like there are 2 reticles BUT i grabbed my digital camera and took a pic of what it looks like here:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/ZEROTHOMAS/5112.jpg

Thats actually the best quality pic i can get from this camera at that angle but , when pointing the camera inside the sight, its a perfect reticle like it is supposed to be, and doesnt have that illusion of 2 like every other sight pic you see on the web. To my eye its kinda pixelated too, not blurry but pixelated. I know its supposed to be a little but this is kind of a lot. I also noticed when i move the reticle to the side or top of the frame it changed back to the the perfect circle and no illusion.

Now this brings me to my eyes. My eyes arent perfect BUT they arent bad enough to need glasses or contacts. But still could imperfected vision be causing this problem. I see it being highly unlikely. And before you ask, i AM closing on eye when looking through the sight :D:D

I havnt been to the range yet to sight it in. I also cleaned the lense and nothing seems to change it. Later on i will try and get others to look through it and see what they see.

But has anyone ever had this problem or know WHAT the issue is? Any advice will help

Thanks

you've already answered your own question

use the sight correctly and the problem will go away.

keep both eyes open, focus on the target, not the sight.

turn the brightness down as low as it can go and still be useful.

do you have an ASTIGMATISM?

what you are experiencing is a very common complaint for people with astigmatism...

in my experience aimpoints are better (since they are simply a dot with no ring) but still not perfect... aimpoint dots look oblong to me... and my fiancee and best friend thought i was crazy b/c they saw a perfectly round dot... i took a picture like you did... and the dot is perfect...

Yeah except it doesnt really matter which eye i use, both open or not, the reticle does NOT re-adjust to my eyes or anything, its just the way it is. Doesnt change at all. Brightness doesnt help, it stays the same at any level

I wear corrective lenses with astigmatism in both eyes.  I haven't noticed this effect, and for myself, the EOtech has been a blessing.  I'm sorry I don't know how to support you other than you may wish to seek options for corrective lenses.

Best,

Ed

You know i never even heard of that until now. And now that i read about it, it could be the problem. This might sound silly but i did mutiple tests online just out of curiousity and according to them i dont have it haha. Im going to ask others what they see

and i just asked someone to look through the sight and they said it was a perfect circle. hmm strange. Oh well, its really not too much of an issue as long as i can see the damn thing lol. Might be harder to sight in but whatever.

But also like i said before. I can move the reticle to the side of the frame to either side and it will be fine.  I dont get it

Now it almost seems like there are 2 reticles

Try blinking more often.

I wear contacts, and according to my doctor I do not suffer from astigmatism, yet I can also see the 2 reticles sometimes.

I have noticed that it does not matter if I have one eye or both eyes open.

Frequent blinking helps me...

Also, try shifting your focus from the reticle to an imaginary spot between the reticle and the target, then to a target, then through a target, and notice as the focus of the reticle changes. Not sure how/why, but this also makes the focus of the reticle change for me.

It just seems to be the case with some people.  When I got mine I got the EXACT thing you are talking about and took a picture and it was right and asked others and they said they just saw one circle.

If I use it outside and just concentrate on shooting, I get just the single circle, if you try to focus on the sight it becomes worse.

I do wear contacts and I also notice if I blink a lot or move my contact around it makes it worse or better depending on how its sitting on my eye, so my reasons may be different than yours, but its the same issue.

So try blinking a bit, try to focus on the target and not the sight and, in a way, forget the site is there for the most part and that should help.

Yeah i notice if i use it outside its alot better but its sort of still there. Ill try the blinking method tommorow because i locked my stuff up for the night hehe. and as for the "keep both eyes open, focus on the target, not the sight." comment, yeah i know how to shoot thanks, but its different in the case because it doesnt matter which eye i use. I only said i had one eye open because i know alot of people who cant and dont shoot with 2 eyes, regardless of how you are "supposed" to use the sight.

Anyways thanks everyone for your help, much appreciated

I recently purchased one and asked the same question directly to EOTech and they replied that the recticle is made of many pixels (red lasers) and that is what makes the "hologram". I just turned the brightness down and got used to the sight by starting with focusing on farther distances and then now it looks pretty clear. Here is the EOTech page. Scroll down a bit on it and you'll find a little section on the recticle setting.
