I'm looking to buy a eotech reddot for my ar. The two I'm looking at are the 517.A65 and the 516.A65/1. I am choosing these because I may put a magnifier on it at some point and I want the adjustments on the side. From looking at the specs of both of them all I can tell that is different is the length of them(one of them is 5.7 and one is 5.1). I was wondering what other differences are there between these two if any. Also which one would you get, is it better to have the short one or the long one?

| Pretty much the same sight except the 516 uses CR123 batteries, while the 517 uses AA batteries-a CR123 is shorter than an AA hence the difference in length of the two sights. It depends on which one you prefer, most people will go for the 517 since you can get AA batteries anywhere. Others will go for the 516 since most tactical lights use the CR123, and you would only need to carry one type of replacement battery for the two. |

Austin I understand how it can be confusing. With all the Eotech variants available, you would think that someone at Eotech would have the brains to have a comparison chart available for the available models to show the differences between them. |
| The only practical differences are 1) the 517 takes AA, 516 takes CR123, and 2) the 517 is a little longer than the 516. If you want to mount a magnifier, I would think getting the shorter one (516, which is what I now have) would serve that end better than the 517, although I'm not clear if it really makes a difference. |
