I have 2 questions,
1. What would you recommend as the best book on building, repairing, and upgrading AR's? I just bought 2 stripped lowers and will be building 3 AR's total. Right now I have my PreBan Colt that can not be used anywhere other then a range. So I am using one of the stripped lowers to build a new lower for it so I can actually use my Colt Upper for hunting. My 2nd stripped lower was bought because I will be buying or building a 6.5 Upper within a year. So I bought the lower in case I decided to build it form scratch. But also because the deal was way too amazing to pass up and I knew I was going to be working on the 6.5 project in the near future. 2. What are your experiences with Vortex scopes? I just took a look thru one yesterday and was extremely impressed (with the glass you get the price). I am going to need a new scope for my Colt when I start using it for hunting. The Vortex scopes seem like they would make a great addition to use for hunting Coyote and Bobcat. I was thinking the Diamondback in 4-12x40 would work well for what I intend to use it for. I am not sure if getting the one with the AO or the one without would be a better choice. I know there are better choices in the Vortex line. But I do not need the top of the line to use for Coyote. If I were going for Trophy shots then I would get the Viper HS line. I also feel better about buying one of the lower model scopes from Vortex fist since I have never used them before. If this first scope works out well then I would have no problem getting the top of the line models for another project. But because this manufacturer is new to the industry and not as well known or proven then say Leopold or other scopes that rule the industry I worry about putting down the money on one of their top of the line models. These scopes seem to be built to last which I really like for a hunting scope because I am not gentle with my hunting optics so a sturdy scope is a must. I could also get the Crossfire line but the only reticle they offer that I would want in that line is the mildot. I am planning on getting the BDC reticle if I go with the Diamondback line. Anyone have any experience with that reticle? What are your experiences with the Vortex line? |
