I have a 11" Troy Vtac Alpha and I'm looking for a better way to mount my light. Right now I'm using the small rail section with a gear sector mount. Besides being bulky compared to the low profile hand guard it makes my rifle slightly front heavy, balance is off just enough to bug me.

I've seen a few set ups where the light is mounted what looks like directly to the slot in the rail. I PMed a guy and he said he just screwed it to the rail without a mount. Any info, tips, or pictures would be great. I like running my lights on the left side. It looks tight with my troy flip up sight but I might be able to mount it at the 11 o'clock position.

Thanks for the link. I bet it will be easier with the Vtac model.

Awesome.

Could we get some more pics of just the scout mounted (no laser), from an overhead, or top view?

How much clearance for a front BUIS? Say like a KAC micro?

Also, does the clicky tail cap fit on there as well?

You have a ballpark for getting the Scout work done by Mark Housel of L&M Precision? Trying to decide if the cost + shipping, etc is worth it over the cost of an actual mount.

ETA: You mention using the rail backing without the ridge, yet that's shown in the above pic with the holes drilled out. Which piece is correct?

What he said, those things work great.

I just like customizing / modifying projects...

I think this will do. More pictures would be great if anyone has any. Thanks guys.

ETA: Why a Scout and Mini Scout, how long the mount is? I have a scout but I don't want to run it to far from the hand guard in case the rifle falls. Just seems more sturdy to me. From your website it looks like I can run it at the 11 o'clock and clear the button on my Troy sight.

Correct. Running either the M3 or M6 will clear the FS.
