First time I've ever had this problem in the dozens of rifles I've assembled. Bolt does not return all the way forward after firing. Extraction and feeding are fine. I have to tap the FA to get the bolt to close all the way. It appears to stop just after engaging the locking lugs. This happens between 70 and 90% of the time. Ammo is XM193 Lubricant is LSA No unusual wear patterns (fired ~ 100 rounds) Any ideas? |

Well it's not the ammo that's for sure. Try this. With the charging handle latched (or removed) and upper hinged open, stick your pinky finger into the rear of carrier and slide the carrier in and out feeling for binding or other oddities. I do this after a barrel install feeling for either gas tube mis-alignment or other problems. Sometimes new gas rings will cause stiff lock up. If everything is smooth and operates with little force you now know it's buffer system related or hammer follow through related. Hope it helps. |

Done that. It feels like it's catching slightly just as the bolt starts turning to engage the locking lugs. Swapped in a different bolt/carrier and it feels the same way. It takes very little pressure to get the bolt to lock fully. Lower worked fine with different upper. It's a pistol recoil setup, so the buffer is non-existent. Tried a couple different weights of recoli spring with no changes. At this point I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the bolt engagement; I'm not sure how to proceed from here. |
