So against my better judgement my buddy who in an impulse buyer wanted a hog gun and bought a 308 DPMS Sportical. I took it apart and cleaned it and lubed it. It was totally dry.

loaded up a mag and chambered it. It was a little sticky but it went into battery. Now, the bastard will not manually eject the round. I obviously dropped the mag and gave the handle a tug. The latch disengaged but it barely budges. This fucker is stuck like chuck. Bolt doesn't seem to move at all.

Any ideas other than going to the range to shoot this live round off, then selling the rifle for scrap metal?

Google AR15 Mortoring. Its a technique you can use to remove stuck cases/rounds. Works every time I've had that issue.

Call DerPMS? Fucked if I know; maybe you could pry the bolt open with a screwdriver or something if you aren't willing to take the chance on firing it. If you fire it (and it doesn't kaboom), you could at least get a rod down the barrel and start hammering.

His first problem was buying a DPMS.

ETA: Yeah, mortar it.

After videoing the problem for evidence to DPMS, Mortar ing is the first step. Outside.

Took a few good wacks but I mortared it and got it out. This thing just feels like shit to charge and the bolt only goes into battery half the time. And I've racked it about 100 times with plenty of synthetic lube.

I'm calling him to come get this POS out of my safe.

Thanks guys

Tell him to call DPMS there is clearly a problem with the rifle.

This guy man, he's out of control and sometimes I think there is no helping him.

He takes it back to Academy where he purchased and the guy behind the gun counter (who was probably stocking shoes the day before) tells him that 308 AR's are just harder to rack than 223 rifles and they are supposed to be sticky. So now my buddy wants to just take it to the range. I freed the stuck round and chambered another. It manually ejected but it almost feels like the bolt or carrier is too big for the receiver.

IDK, maybe my standards are too high. I've never owned a DPMS.

Please tell us what ammo you are having problems with? How many different types of ammo have you or your friend tried?

I sell a bunch of DPMS LR-308 Oracles at my shop and I can't say any of my customers have had any problems related to function. I had a guy bring one in that was purchased somewhere else that would not go into battery. There was a problem with the ejector. I made a thread about it in the forum. I repaired the gun for him, and DPMS sent me replacement parts which I used to re-supply my parts bin.

I made a thread about it in the forum but I can't seem to find it right now.

Do you have another BCG you could try? It is going to be the ammo or the bolt.

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with DPMS LR-308s in general.

It was 150 gr PPU. Not mine

Pull out the BCG and depress the ejector. It will be under spring tension but it should move freely.

Do you know how to disassemble the bolt in order to inspect the ejector?

Pull the bolt and drop a loaded round in the chamber and see if it makes the nice "plunk" sound that a properly sized round should make. This will help, you determine whether the issue is with the chamber or the bolt.

I am having a problem linking on this iPad but here is the thread I made when troubleshooting a customer's gun.
