Do I have to shoot 223 round only or can I shoot 5.56 rounds too?

You can shoot both.

DPMS has 223 on their barrels, but their actually chambered for 5.56.

Yes, it can shoot both.

+1

Have one marked .223 and have shot plenty of 5.56 thru it with no problems.

No safety/reliability issues.

However shooting 5.56 out of a .223 barrel MAY cause reliability issues (casings sticking). Depends on the particular ammo and how close to the minimum .223 dimensions your chamber is cut.

I've seen .223 chambered rifles choke on Winchester Q3131A (5.56) and I've seen them eat it with ease.

DPMS chambers are actually & no buts about it, chambered for 5.56, dont know why they marked 223 on their barrels.

Their the only AR makers that does that.

There a link to that fact floating around here some where.
