Adco can ream a .223 rem or a .223 wylde AR15 barrel to a 5.56 barrel, does anyone know if they plan on reaming 5.56 barrels to .224 Valkyrie? Does anyone know if this is even possible? I have a BCM barrel I’d be interested in converting if possible.

No clue, you should ask them. Steve always replies to my questions very quickly with a straightforward answer.

Case dimensions are way different.

I just shot them an email. I’ll let y’all know the response. It’s a 1:7 twist so I was hoping I might be able to get away with the rifling. But yeah I can can imagine something faster would be preferred.

Good luck. I don't see it happening. Why not just buy the correct barrel?

no real reason other than this one is on hand, and I don’t really find a need for a 20” 5.56 if a .224 Valkyrie is a possibility

Not going to look it up at the moment but I think the case differences will preclude this change. If I remember correctly the 224 Valkyrie is derived from the 6.8 SPC that has been shortened. Because of this the existing chamber will be longer from case head to the datum line. Think of it as being like a 308 in a 30-06 chamber. Not an ideal analogy but I think you get my point.

You would have to add material to the chamber to account for the shoulder difference and then ream it out larger for the diameter difference. Buy a new barrel.

Yeah, I took a quick look at it earlier and posted saying I didn't think it would work.

Adco just replied, not something they’re going to offer. Guess I will just get a Valkyrie Barrel and build the 5.56 barrel up as a trainer

If you really wanted to do it, the existing chamber would be drilled out and an insert made for the new chamber. However, not knowing if 1:7 is the optimum twist, you'd probably better just buy the barrel you want.

1:7 will be good for up to 80gr SMK, 80.5/82gr Berger, and 80gr VLDs.

The 90gr SMK should be fine.
