Could someone share their experience regarding the use of their 2x20 Compact?  I have both the H1 and EOtech, and think there is something out there better for my eyes.  Each of those red dots "bloom" significantly for me.  I do not have the problem using a scope, but having older eyes and a stigmatism leads me to believe a low powered scope a better choice.   I have considered the new 1x4 scopes, but want to consider the Acog also.  This would be going on a light weight build that will be used for both self defense and recreational shooting.  I do not do much shooting over 100 yards.  Can the above mentioned Acog be a viable substitute for a "red dot", within reason?  Thanks

I have a 1.5x24 mini acog on a lightweight build and think it is perfect for shooting less than 100 yards.
Red dots bloom for me also, but have started to learn how to ignore it.
I also like the 1x4 accupoint, but don't use it much on the low power.

Thank you for your input.  I am simply looking for something to give me a clear picture.  Wearing progressive lenses can be a pain looking at a dot.  I will also look at the 1.5.  Thanks again.

I had  a 2x with an amber colored triangle reticule, it was a great optic and the only reason I sold it was to fund the purchase of a 1.5x with a green colored circle dot reticule in a short housing.  I liked the triangle, very accurate when the point is used at a distance and pretty fast when the triangle is used like a large red dot at shorter distances.  If I were to obtain another one I'd try to get it with a red reticule instead of amber.

Thanks for that info.  Particularly regarding the color of the reticle.  This is the type of user experience I was hoping to find.  Again, thanks.

Red ACOGs have been known to bloom under direct sunlight.  You can limit this by covering the fiber optic with something - electrical tape or I have seen some sleeve type thing that zips over it.

I have not had blooming issues with my green ACOG under direct sunlight.

YMMV

Green triangles seem to be the perfered type.  Thanks

Edited to add:  where does the Tri-Powered Trijicon fit?  As a red dot or something more along the liines of Leupold 1x with the etched glass?

Since you already have an H1 you could run it on an offset mount with the Acog of your choice.

Last I checked the 2x wasn't available with a green triangle, just red or amber.  The 2x is available with green cross hairs.

I'd skip over the Tri-Power, I had one for a while but traded it out because the reticule is not etched so it washes out fairly easily and the battery life isn't very long.

Accupoints, like ACOGs, have etched reticules.

I have the 1.5x TA44 ACOG with the circle dot reticle on a lightweight AR.  The dot does not bloom like my H1 and it is very sharp and clear.  Personally I prefer the amber reticle over the green and especially over the red.  If you can, look at all the colors of ACOG reticles before you decide.  Reticle color choice seems to be a very personal preference thing.

+1

IMO
Green>Red>Amber

My favorite reticle now is a red crosshair.
If they make a green crosshair 1.5x24 with BAC some day that would probably be my new favorite.

I have a 3X compact ACOG with amber cross hair and I like it. Does not bloom and the glass is good.  Only complaint is the eye relief.  If I saw another for the same price, I would buy it.

I, too, suffer from astigmatism & aging eyes. The only thing I don't like about ACOGs is the lack of an adjustable focus (which I need to bring the reticle into sharp focus).
I'm currently experimenting w/the Leupold Prismatic w/the DCD (double-circle dot) reticle, sort of a poor man's 1x ACOG w/adjustable focus.
So far I really like it for my needs: Huge FOV, generous eye box, good glass, the afore-mentioned adjustable focus and I find the DCD reticle to be very fast.
Biggest downside is short battery life (appx 250hrs on the lowest setting, all I need for lowlight use) but w/the etched reticle it's not a deal-killer for me.

About the dot in the TA44 ACOG, it's 6.1MOA - is that acceptable or does it lead to less accuracy than say TA44S-10 which has one MOA dot and a bigger circle?

IIRC, the circle dot reticle in the TA44S-10 is a 2moa center and a 23 moa outer circle. I haven't used the larger dot reticles but I expect the smaller dots would be a little more accurate.

FWIW, I always found that 4MOA donut in bigger models acceptable.
2/23 MOA combo is an interesting proposition.

I have a TA47-2 Compact ACOG (2x, Amber Triangle) on my primary AR.  It is without a doubt my favorite optic for "run and gun" type shooting and bridges the gap between a scope and a red dot.  It close ranges it can be used just like a red dot, the eye relief is great and shooting both eyes open isn't an issue at all.  At father ranges the 2x magnification is helpful and the tip of the triangle is a great aiming point for more precision.  My only regret is that I can't afford a couple more.

My 10 year old son first his first 5 rounds through a 5.56mm AR with that rifle and that optic and hit a steel plate at 75 yards all 5 times.  I was proud.

What other reticles can you get with TA47?

The TA44 and TA45 are on my "serious" list.

I rarely shoot beyond 100 yards, thanks for the info

1.5X magnification will make 100 yds seem like 66 yds, 200 yds seem like 133 yds, etc., so it's still a little more help IDing targets than a non-magnified optic. The circle/dot is a useful reticule out to 300 yds and works well close-up too.

How good is ER on TA47?  They say 1.9" but I am skeptical because ER is usually understated by Trijicon.

My experience is that the field of view narrows past at distances greater than the listed eye relief.

You can easily check it. Shine a torch into the objective (20mm) and hold a piece of paper in front of the eye piece. Move it back and forth and see where the focal point is and measure ER.

OP if you don't mind i will ask a question in this thread rather than starting a whole new one.

Is anyone running a ta45r-2 1.5x24 or any of the 1.5x24 models? If so how do you like it and how is the eye relief? Also how would you mount it on a flat top ar 15?. thanks

to the original OP... I have a 3.75 astigmatism, and wear monovision glasses with my near prescription in my dominant eye, and the bifocal line moved up a couple of millimeters in the non dominant for competition....I too have a problem that dot scopes and holographic images do not appear round... my 1.5x16 with amber triangle allows target identification at distances to 200m and excellent field of view at close distances

I have a TA45R-4 and the best mount is the LaRue "DOS-MINI" mount. It makes the Trijicon mounts look like cheap chinese crap.
The eye relief on the 1.5x24 is the longest of all the acog's, however some people will accept less eye relief in exchange for a wider field of view. YMMV.

Hmm thanks for your answer. I will be looking at both the 1.5x24 and 1.5x16 models soon.
