I know nothing about AR's except that I'll be likely owning one or both of these LEO Colt rifles after the Sunset. Can any of you Colt fans or law guys out there tell me the virtues in comparing the two? Which do you like better and for what reason? (Colt 6920 M4 or, Colt 6721 Tactical A3)

I'm a law abiding guy who likes the real thing for collectors purposes and pride of ownership. And law guys, I promise not to run around with these rifles looking like Rambo. OK?

Please....you other guys....don't start telling me how Colt is an overated rifle from a prick company and why I should by a Bushy, Armalite, or etc. I heard it already, and that's not the question here. I'm wanting to know about these two rifles in particular.

Thanks for your help in advance.

We need to merge our threads, because I'm asking the same thing.www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=118&t=200176

The AR15A3 is a much heavier carbine. If you are simply collecting, it doesn't matter. If you are only target shooting, it doesn't matter. If you plan on doing real work with it, it starts to matter.

Get whatever you want.

PS-I'm a cop, and you can run around like Rambo if you want. I still don't see the glamour in LE weapons. Like other people have said, the Eotech says LE/Mil on the side, and no one gets excited about that.

Stickman,

I do intend to own one or both rifles after the sunset, and become poficient at the firing range with them. I thought perhaps the A3 might be enhanced by steadier shooting with its longer barrel, and forearm. I imagine the heavier A3 barrel disipates heat better too and might aid in more accurate shooting. I doubt the 1-9 or 1-7 twist barrels will make a difference in one gun or the other with standard 55 gr ammom. However, if there is a disadvantage in one over the other, the 6721 Tactical A3 is about a pound heavier. But it seems you don't think there will be much difference in the two other than personal preference. Well then that's nice to know that they are on even keel and one is not inferior to the other, because I have been working on details to own the two after the sunset. I really don't want to make any major $1,000 mistakes!!! I don't want to appear as I am answering my own questions, as much as I wanted to see if my thoughts were correct.

As far as you saying you don't understand the glamour of owning a marked LE rifle.....it's no different then most guys prefering the 6920 M4 to the 6721 A3 Tactical hands down 4 to 1. I guess everybody wants to associate their toys as close to the real thing as possible. From what I understand, the M4 is the current issue Military rifle with stepped barrel and all, but without the Rock n Roll lever on it. So for a civilian, the LE stamping on either is as "Real as it Gets".
No different then when the FBI adapted the 10mm round. Everbody had to run out and buy one.

Time will tell how the LE stamp effects the value. I think it will especially help its value during the next ban! (Trust me, I don't know when it's coming, but it's coming.)

I went with the LE6920....but that one isn't leaving the box...staying sealed up in preparation for the next ban which I foresee in the near future as well unfortunately.

For my personal fun toy I also ordeed a Bushmaster XM15 E2S M4A3 Type LE Carbine but with a 1 in 7 twist and a Phantom 5C2 instead of the standard bushy Phantom (plus a "few" other little mods, lol)

I'm trying to decide between the R6520 16" ltwt and the R6721 16" hbar. I already have a HK-91 which is plenty heavy...so U'd think I'd want something light right? I don't know yet. I'd like to have a R6721 just because people were paying $4000+ for that model while the ban is in effect...and now they're $850.

You know what Overlander... I currently only own one Colt AR15 pre ban that is NIB. For 10 years I saved that rifle. FOR WHAT?.....I paid $800 for it then, and now its worth a big $950. I made $15 a year profit for all the self control. This time, I'm going to get the two Colt rifles I really desire while the ban is dead, AND SHOOT THE LIVING CRAP OUT OF THEM!!!!.....and enjoy them for a change! I'll keep them in like new condition while I use them. And so what?........ 10 years from now, instead of getting $8,000 for a "New in box" 6920, I'll get $6,500 for it.

ya..ya.. Der older I get, der shhmarter.

Lightweight and 1/7" is the way to go. Ask yourself this:

1. What is the purpose of a heavy weight carbine?

2. Why limit your ammunition choices?

Funny thing is, I really don't have a desire to shoot the Colt... Just looking to make a buck off of it in the future. As far as Black Rifles go, I prefer Bushmaster.
I'm also banking on the collector status of LE stamped AR's once supplies are depleted. If I'm wrong then no big deal, just one more AR in the collection, if I'm right I could turn a nice profit in a year or so. Either way, I can't lose. I only paid $905 Shipped for a NIB LE6920

I have the 6721, and I'm pleased with it.

I prefer an HBAR, since I'm not going on 14 mile humps or Patrolling 10 hours with it. And I have no use for 1/7". I'll take the longevity of 1/9 because I don't shoot Orange tip. Green tip is very accurate out of my 1/9s.

I bought the LE6920 myself as I already have a pre-ban Lightweight Sporter lower with a 6721 upper. I went for the 6920 due to the stepped M4 barrel, and chrome lined 1/7 barrel where my 6721 is a 1/9 HBAR and not chrome lined. I would have bought the LE6921 if I could have found one at the time with the 14.5 barreled version. No biggie, I'll take the 6920 no problem.

I know my 1/9 HBAR IS CHROME LINED! I suspect you're wrong on that statement. Unless there was a small run of LE guns that lacked chrome lined bores that I'm unaware of.

Colt does make some unlined barrels, but not for the LE GUNS as far as I know.

Could someone please verify this before I make a big mistake as I have the 6721 on order and definitely want the bore to be chrome lined.

That's why I got my Bushy 14.5 with the 1 in 7
But ordered the Colt as well, lol... Glad I didn't hesitate, prices being askend now are WAYYYYY over what I paid 2 days ago. Supply and demand
We'll see how prices jump after the sunset, if the price is right I may have a LE6920 up for sale sooner then originally planned.

Don't sweat it. You will have a chrome lined bore.

I have an LE6721 which I bought last Tuesday in celebration of the AWB sunsetting. My carbine is a police trade-in piece, but aside from a few handling dings, it looks new. I doubt if it had more than a box of ammo through it before I bought it.

I shot it last Thursday. It ate 100 rounds of Winchester 55 grain FMJ and ~60 rounds of American Eagle 55 grain FMJ without any problem. I also put 100 rounds of Wolf 55 grain JHP through it but got a few bolt-over-base FTFs.

My 50 yard groups were about 1.25" from the bench. The short sight radius and somewhat heavy trigger work against getting better groups.

It's a nice handling gun and I think I prefer the CAR-style handguards over the fatter M-4 handguards.

Today I ordered a DPMS ambi safety lever for it (I'm a lefty), but I'm not going to add anything else to it except for a red dot sight somewhere down the road. This is my second AR, my first was a postban Bushmast Dissipator. This rifle handles better than the Dissie, IMO. If the dealer who I bought my Colt from had had any of the LE6920s in stock I might have bought one, for the lighter weight. However, I am 100% pleased with the rifle I got.

I'm getting the 6721. Primarily, I'm wanting the AR15A3 Tactical Carbine stamping. Law Enforcement Carbine just doesn't do it for me; I want it to say AR15 on it somewhere. I'll buy a real 14.5" M4 upper for it later, maybe. Personally I don't like the fatty M4 handguards.

Does the 6721 have M4 feed ramps?

"The 6920 has and M4 flattop upper with the RAS markings and M16 feed ramps as does the 6721, but it also has the barrel with the M203 stepdown, is 1 in 7 twist as opposed to 1 in 9 on the 6721, has double heat shield hand guards and a side sling attachment. The 6721 does not have these. Otherwise they are the same except for the wording."

Well, I picked up my 6920 last week that was being held for 3 months until the sunset. Man did I sweat that one out, having already paid for the LEO rifle far in advance. ( but not knowing if it would actually be mine!) The 6721 should be deliverd in another couple of weeks if I can believe my law enforcement buddy.

GUYS, TWO Questions:

I want to put an Eotech on the 6920. Can I mount it direct, or do I need their ARMS #40 base? I see that base lists for $140 on their website. Ouch! Is that the going price out there? I'm going to the Dallas Gun Show this weekend and wondered if I might find suitable substitute bases. But I don't want to save money and end up with a junk base either. I know Model 1 sales will be there at the show, as well as other dealers. I'M NEW AT ALL THIS and don't want to walk lost through the woods like Goldy Locks and wind up being molested!!!!!!!!!

I noticed my new 6920 M4's forearm will turn (pivot) about 1/8 of an inch. This is kind of annoying when you go to grab the rifle and feel it moving around in your hand. (I probably wouldn't have even noticed this slight rolling motion if I didn't compare it with another AR rifle which doesn't do this.) Is this a minor adjustment to eliminate?

You can mount the Eotech directly on you flattop- no problem. Some people prefer the iron sights in the lower third of the Eotech window and for that you need the LaRue Eotech base, NOT any ARMS base (btw, the #40 is their flip up/back up sight). IMHO Gunshows are great for buying Colt milsurp parts (if you know what to look for), ammo deals or USGI mags, but I would always try the dealers here at Equipment Exchange forum first.
