I recently ran upon a small store with several Clear Battle packs. Looked just like the SA Stuff, only package was clear and If I remember Correctly there were only 8 boxes in each pack.

Anyone ever see this stuff? What is it's origin? Was priced at $42 a pack. Seemed a little steep compared to what I was buying SA for.

Did the boxes have any marks/stickers or anything on them?  And where'd you find it? [:D]

I believe they had a sticker on each box like the SA. I found it in a small hardware store.  What is the stuff? Any Good?

Also note that it may be SA brass-cased 7.62x39.  This was commonly packed in clear BPs of 8 truncated square-based pyramidal boxes.  Make sure of the cartridge before purchase.

FYI, if it is SA 7.62x39, it is scarce as hell anymore, and was going for $25 to $30 a BP in its day.

Could this be the arrival of the (new?) long anticipated SA battlepack shipment to alleviate this dry spell?

Troy, anyone?

[with fingers crossed and check card ready....]

If it was, then why would just a little hardware store get it? Especially before all the big guys like Ammoman, Sportsman's Guide, etc etc

Yes, I thought they were 7.62 *39 - So I dug around my 7.62 *39 Stock - I seem to have bought about 1K of that stuff from CDNN long time ago. Well, I found 2 BP like just described and like Noah indicated, 8 boxes, I had one of those little boxes opened in another can.  They come 25 cart. in a little box, making a 200 rnd battle pack.  The little trapozoid type of boxes have a White Label stuck on them without any writings.  The BP Plastic is clear, but has a smokey clear color to it.  It is of 1988 vintage SA 7.62 * 39.

The Eight pack jolted my memory.

Jeez.. I think I paid around $120 for 1K with free shipping .. I think.

.....This was definitely not the new stuff everyone is waiting for. I had seen it in the back of this "MOM-N-POP" hardware store for the last couple of years, but had not paid any attention.(just got into the Ar game last year) I was up in the area today and took a closer look at the stuff . The boxes were sealed with the same white sticker as the rest of my SA only they had no lot numbers or any other markings on them.
The fellow who owned the place told me it was African .223 ammo that he had bought up a while back.
The price was $43.99 a battle pack (8  boxes in a pack)
I think this price is pretty steep. About 18 1/2 cents a round if my math is correct.

I just picked up some of the 7.62x39 in the clear battle packs at a local gun shop. Head stamp was marked 13 and 88 for the year. $36. a pack. I've never shot brass cased ammo out of my SAR-1. Can't wait to try it out.

The clear .223 300 round battle packs, troy was talking about can be had at Ky imports Inc. for $52.99.  Or 900 rnds. at 149.99 - 1-800-718-3643

Personally, I have South African 7.62*39 -200rnds pack and Cheetah from Vector Arms.  They work great for AR 7.62*39.  They shoot the same. The cheetah can be had for 10c a rnd.  I used it in Ar because the Wolf 7.62 *39 has harder primers and at times it needs 2nd hits to go bang.  My Bulgarian AK prefers wolf rather than SA or Cheetah.
