What effects does carbon build-up on the rear of the bolt have on the operation of the rifle and reliability of hte rifle?

Has anyone ever done any tests to see if it has any real, measureable affect ot he reliability of hte AR-15?

None.  By design, it will only build up so far, then break off and be blown out of the gas system.  No need to get it uber clean....  No need to super scrape the carrier or the rear of the bolt.

Thats been my experience also.  I scraped it all off last night just for fun and games.

It was nice seeing you at Gunstock this weekend.

I've got thousands and thousands of rounds that say it's self cleaning.

Maybe it's a Wolf thing?
