There are a lot of great manufacturing companies on this board, perhaps one of them can take this idea and run with it. With a free set given to me, of course as payment for the idea. :-)

I like the built in backup sights that are located on top of ACOG's. Since it seems that many of us have Aimpoint's as they are about half the price of ACOG's, I would think there might be a market for this idea.

What I would like to see is a set of backup sights that mount somehow to the Aimpoint scope. This should be relatively inexpensive in price, say, about half the price of a set of normal flipup backup sights that fit on an AR15's rail.

Maybe the sights could mount to the scope somehow, or perhaps to the rail itself just like the Aimpoint and then fit over the Aimpoint somehow.

What do you ya'll think of the idea?

A set of Troy sights is FAR superior.

Like this?

That is the J-Point, and here’s their website: www.jprifles.com/

There is also another brand called Docter Optic - I’ll let you research that.

I don't think it would offer any sort of advantage over what is already available. I have never thought very highly of the back-up iron sights on an ACOG, either. Both the ACOG and your concept have an effective sight radius less than that of the average size handgun. I would rather have to deploy a flip-up rear sight (or front, or both) or use the "dead" Aimpoint as a large rear ghost ring.

Not trying to smash your idea down - just giving you the input you asked for. Someone else might think its great, I just dont see the necessity.

Take care,
Clint

He's looking for BUIS on top of his Aimpoint. Why would he want/need a red dot on top of a red dot?

Well, OK.

Some SEALS are finding it works great.

Seems to make good sense to them.

Sheesh...whats with all the hostility?

I'll let Frogman be "specific."

BUIS closer to the barrel would be more difficult to damage, and if your aimpoint got knocked off it would affect your point of aim. As well as the other drawbacks already pointed out. Also the BUIS being closer to the barrel would make the bullet impact closer over a longer distance.

My read is Frogman is referring to the ACOG and the JPoint. Not Aimpoints or Eotechs!

There's a difference?

Heaven's to Mergatroid!

Yep, I misread the initial post - for some reason I got ACOG out of it. Shrugs...

BTW - nowhere in this post is the word “iron.”

I provided an option, albeit not exactly what he was looking for.

Then again, he asked this:

Maybe the sights could mount to the scope somehow, or perhaps to the rail itself just like the Aimpoint and then fit over the Aimpoint somehow.

Tell ya what, new-arguy. I’ve probably broken more ACOGs than you’ve ever held in your hands.

That being said, this will be the last time I offer a guy an option in this POS Forum. Ya’ll just too damn smart for me.

Who would brag they have broken dozens and dozens of ACOGs? Some sort of crazed lunatic?

Both the Aimpoint and EoTech can be used as plain 1x optics, albeit without an aiming mark. This is where the CQT has an advantage as there is a reticule at all times. Centering and guesttimating on a 1x optic would still eb better than than 2 bits of metal that cannot be adjusted set 4 inches apart.

I suppose you could get the objective lens etched with a big donut.

I usally don't like to post unless I am adding to the topic but I just need to know why can't people who simply misunderstood something just say so. All you need to say is "sorry, I misread what the topic was, my mistake" What's so hard about that? Why do people get all pissed at other people for something they messed up then try and state how qualified they are and call the site a POS. It amazes me, just be a man and say I was wrong.

Got any of those ACOGs you'd like to get rid of cheap? I wouldn't mind, really.....

Apparently, you neglected your reading lessons before you jumped on that high horse.

Well of course new-arguy.

And fuck you too. No offense intended, of course.

Edit: If you want to continue this with me (which I don't) take it to IM - I'm done in this Forum)

Oh come on, those are replicas!

I know, because I've looked at more ACOG replicas on ebay than you've balanced on your head!

Backstop,
A simple "I misread the post" would be preferable. Instead you had to try to save face; all you really accomplished is to prove you can't admit when you were wrong.

Thanks for the warning, btw; now we know exactlly what kind of person we are dealing with.
