With the sunset of the AWB, many of us are rushing to order Colt LE AR15's. I have heard and read many comments as to the Fit and finish of current Colt law enforcement carbines. Local Colt dealers have said anything from outstanding to horrible! Are they comparable to the current Colt Match Target rifles? If anyone who has recently purchased a Colt LE AR15 can comment on this topic, I think many of us would be interested. Thank you.

My LEO has a few tiny little pin sized spots in the finish, but nothing to get concerned over, as these are on the delta ring only.

The fit on both my LE6920 and MT6400 are the same, ideal.  But, the finish on the Match Target is much better.

LE6920 purchased two months ago or so has a couple of areas on the left of the lower receiver that look like someone fell asleep with the Dremel and nodded into it.  It's kind of dimpled is the best I can describe it.

I've also heard of purple receivers but thought it was Bushmaster that was guilty of that.  I swear my upper is purple in sunlight.  Lower is black, upper purple, and detachable handle is a dull grey-black.  Looks like a damn rainbow.

It rides with me every night in the squad and shoots like crazy at the range so I don't care.  I've still got one.

I think Colt made some turkeys (finish wise) in the late 1990's when they were pumping out Match Targets to keep the doors open (this is when they basically cancelled most of their handgun line). I remember being at FFF in Ashland Ohio when they got about 50 Colts in one day, and I could honestly say all the ones I saw had some finish issues. I think when Colt brought out the MT6400C they really made an effort on QC and all the Colts I've seen the past few years have looked top notch.

My Le6920 arrived today. Looks pretty damn good to me.

Only a couple ultra-minor 1/8" marks under the ejection port near the pivot pin. Nothing to worry about.

Got mine 3 months ago, and it has a Diemaco upper and a Cardinal Handle. Apparently Colt can't keep up with the War effort.
My Delta ring also has several small nicks in it!!!

mine is absolutely flawless !! it appears that someone personally selected this gun for them selves but sent it to me instead !!, it also has a S/N that makes it collectible.

One of my 6920's has a a few small pits or blems on the upper. One of my Bushy LEO's has a a couple of rough spots on the lower. Not a big deal, But so much for Colts Quality control......

My Colt LE6920 had some suspect areas on the upper that looked at first like very thin coating was peeling away. But after wiping it down, it turned out to be just the original lubrication being uneven.

I have seen this on Bushmasters as well- it looks as thought the stocks are partially covered in oil.

So as for my Colt.....looks great. Upper matched perfectly with lower, fit and finish AOK.

I am now considering a 20" version, since my current AR collection includes a 14.5", and a couple of 16.1" ers.

While I prefer carbines as they are fun and look/operate great, but I also would like to have a longer range option in the rack.

I have yet to hear from my dealer. I ordered one on 9-15 and was told that he could not guarantee the availability or the price! Has anyone that ordered after the ban expiered, gotten theirs yet?
How much have you guys been paying for them?
Thanks

My LE6920 has a great fit & finish.  A range report and question for you guys:

Shot 300 rounds yesterday through my new LE6920. Function was flawless! This model has more recoil than my 6400c, indicating that the muzzle brake on that gun is somewhat effective. I had an ARMS flip up sight that came loose during the session...FYI use locktite on that thing.

Once I got my aimpoint dialed in it was good to go.

Upon cleaning, I noticed that the anodizing has worn off the feed ramps in the barrel extension and was now polished bare metal. The wear was not in the aluminum part of the upper reciever (so-called m4 feed ramps) but in the steel barrel extension notches. I have never seen such wear before in my match targets which have seen more use. Is this normal?

BTW, I had an ATF letter in my car to protect against overzealous cops, though no one asked.

Does the LE6920 have a chrome lined chamber/bore?

Is the barrel made with 4150 steel?

What is the twist rate?

I looked at Colt's web site and couldn't find the specs.

It's a 5.56 NATO 1:7 twist barrel.

The rest, I have no idea.  I'll look down the barrel tonight and see what sort've metal it's made out of.  h=85%

I've had my 6920 for about 5 years now. It has over 38,000 rds through it w/o a single malfunction. It is a duty gun which I also use extensively for training including taking many tactical courses with it.

My serial number is pretty low so I think its one of the first shipped #LE01XXX .

If your looking for an extremely reliable and durable M4 this is the one.

PS : I'm glad everyone can now have these beauties

Got my 6920 today. Fit is great. Finish is good. Some dimpling around the left side of the lower and some minor pitting on the front sight casting. When held next to my mid 1980s MATCH H BAR it ain't even close. 1980's H BAR, much better finish.
I'm still HAPPY.

I don't know about their LE rifles but I have a MT6700C that the finish on the receiver is not perfect. It obviously left the factory without visiting the QC department. Functions fine, just doesn't look as good as it should.

Bought a NIB 6721 and NIB 6520. The 6721 has a couple little marks on the lower like it had been slid across a table, other than that it's excellent. 6520 is perfect in every way.

Got my 6920 a couple of weeks ago from Gun Dealer 3 (Jim-great guy to deal with!) on this board-weapon is awsome!  I ahve a 6400 also and I have to say the fit and finish on the 6920 is the same on the 6400-excellent!  I have installed collapsable stock on the 6400 and plan to have barrel threaded and install flash suppressor.  I think I will use the 6400 for carry and not shoot the 6920 for now-just take her out of the safe and fondle her every now and then.

Have any of you had a hard time getting the "removable" carry handle off the reciever?  I will need some vice-grips or something to make the carry handle screws budge on my 6920 HB
Link Posted: 10/7/2004 9:58:25 AM EDT
[#41]
I had the exact same problem (although I purchased the 6920 HB upper ONLY not the complete rifle (from S.A.W)).  I looked all over the house for something that had an edge the same width as the slotted opening on the carry handle screws.  I didn't want to use a screw driver or pliers because of the risk to the finish.  I found a metal bracket on my workbench that worked just fine (I believe it was actually part of a picture hanging assembly).  It was really easy, and couldn't have worked any better.

I ordered mine from Impact Arms on 9/20/2004. Still no rifle. They said 60 days so I can't complain yet.
