I was just wondering if any of you have had any of your bushmasters lower recievers cracking... I went to a gun shop today and the gun smith there said that bushmaster is having problems with that, cause its going threw a assembly line were they punch it with a stamp now. After a while of shooting he said it'll crack were the magizine goes in.

Thanks, but I think he's wrong, just thought to see if any of you had that problem.

In speaking of cracking,  was your gunsmith smoking crack? Seriously, I've never heard of that happening.  The only company I've heard of that have recievers cracking on a regular basis would  the Vulcan Carbon fiber lower.  Hope this helps.  I'm sure  someone with more experience will chime in soon.

Every Bushmaster receiver is roll-stamped with various markings.  Bushmaster makes only FORGED receivers.  If you whack a BM lower with a hammer, you might dent it, but I seriously doubt you'll crack it.

A *cast* lower will crack, and will shatter if given a serious enough impact.  In fact, at Oly, badly-machined cast lowers (QC fails) were "demilled" by whacking them with a hammer and shattering them into pieces.

That was my thought too.

There are some gun store guys who seem to be physically incapable of uttering the words "I don't know"

As a thought - could the guy perhaps be talking about the Carbon line that Bushmaster purchased?  Maybe some old Carbon receivers had problems with cracking?   I dunno

the only thing i can think of would be something i read somewhere.....something about allowing the hammer to fall after pulling the trigger without the uppe attached.......i think that was in the bushy owners manual

Why would a lower crack?  It isn't under a great deal of stress.  Pretty much the only thing that moves around and hits the lower is the hammer and maybe the stock could put some pressure on it if you're holding it really tight tight to your shoulder.  None of that should come close to cracking a lower, and forged metal is rather springy, anyway.

Well,

My dealer still swears to this day that it is illegal for a non-FFL person to ship a gun to an FFL arms dealer.

I walked in there today and showed him the signed copy that an FFL shipped directly to me. He still did not want to admit he was wrong.

Maybe these two asshats are related.

Any receiver on any firearm can crack under the right circumstances.

Just more Idiotic gun shop crap.

Let me guess what he said...

"...Bushmasters stripped lowers are cracking....    BUT I've got this other complete AR15 right here that garunteed, cause its made by the same people who make what the Navy's Delta-Force guys use..."
