I have purchased a lower and completed it.  I found it to be failrly easy to build.  I did buy all of the right tools and it made a world of difference.  I was going to just purchase a fully assembled upper but I enjoy the build as much as I do shooting and do not mind taking longer to get it completed.  So, the question is do I build my own upper as well.  I have read through the guide on this site extensively.  I have a few questions:

1. Who has taken on an upper build and then had problems that resulted in a failure to get it complete?  What were the problems you ran into?
2. Any really big gotchas I should be aware of?
3. If I buy a 16" barrel with a threaded muzzle is attaching a muzzle break as easy as screwing it in?  Do I have to permanently attach it even if the barrel is over 16" already?
4. Anything else I should be aware of?

I know I could just run out and buy an upper complete.  It would even be cheaper as I would not need the tools.  BUT, I would feel more satisfaction having done a complete build myself.  I just want to make sure I am not biting off more than I can chew.  Did others go through that when they first built?  How did it turn out?  Were you really satisified or do you wish you had purchased a completed upper?

Thanks

You'll make the exact same statements when you finish an upper.

Go to your hometown forum to ask this one. The answer can vary depending on state laws.
