I am looking at shooting some high power this coming summer and want to build up a 20" match platform.  Will be shooting heavy for caliber bullets.  Probably 75 grain Hornadys or 77 grain Sierra MatchKings loaded over H4895 on Lake City brass.

The question I have has to do with my existing lower.  It is currently attached to an M4gery 16" carbine.  Can I use the lower as configured with a carbine H buffer, mil-spec tube, and 6 position stock with a 20" upper?  Do I need to change the buffer, spring, or both?

I will eventually build a dedicated lower for this platform with a fixed stock, etc.

Does the carbine buffer and M4 stock cause issues with the 20" action?

Thanks!

Though your 20" upper will likely function fine with a carbine lower, I think NRA / CMP High Power Service Rifle matches will require a full A1 or A2 stock. This will require a different tube, buffer, and spring (unless you currently have an SSS spring) than what's on your carbine.

Be sure to check out the High Power section of the forum:

Service rifle matches (CMP) require A1 or A2 stock.  Dumb rule that's hard on small shooters IMHO, but so far, that's the deal.  You can download the whole 2009 CMP rulebook at the link below.
